Even if there were undesirable consequences if atheism were true, this would not make atheism false. To think otherwise is to simply engage in wishful thinking. 'If death if final, that would be a bad thing. I dont want to believe anything which results in bad things. Therefore, death is not final.' Compare that with the following, which is no doubt on the minds of millions every week: 'If this is not the winning lottery ticket, then I will be terribly disappointed. I do not want to believe anything which results in my being terribly disappointed. Therefore, this is the winning lottery ticket.' By similar reasoning, no one's house would burn down, no one would go bankrupt, no one would be killed in automobile accidents. All that would be required to avert such disasters is to realize that terrible consequences would follow if those things happened and then realize that one does not want to believe it. Then it wouldn't happen. But clearly that is absurd.

There's something about this new blog that tells me I'm going to be a regular reader, but I can't quite put my finger on why.

Is it the secret recipes for fried octopus dumplings encrypted in the art?

I can put my finger on it. It's that "Woman with Octopus in Landscape!" I hope that's a permanent feature.

Doesn't all this blogging take away from your book you said you are writing?

How's that coming?

(hehe)

I was disappointed that Pink didn't look like Pink. Also, anyone remember Gentle Giant in the 70s? They had a great cover for the album (if I remember the name right) Red Octupus.

I remember Gentle Giant. I saw them on stage once or twice. Well, I remember the concept. I don't remember much from the 70s...

"Run, why should I run away
When at the end the only truth certain -
One day everyone dies -
If only to justify life.
Live, I've lived a thousand lives;
And anyone is the right, the just life.
If I could cry, I'd cry for everyone."

Heavy stuff. Well, the was good. (Maybe. .. can't really remember)

The album cover you are thinking of is here:

Actually, if you go to that site, and click here:

(the "about" page)

You'll find the truth... this is actually PZ's own "other" blog... That's him, in drag, on the left.
