Random Quote

Although intelligent design fits comfortably with a belief in God, it doesn't require it, because the scientific theory doesn't tell you who the designer is. While most people - including myself - will think the designer is God, some people might think that the designer was a space alien or something odd like that.

I would love to have a plush Anomalocaris, but this site is all in Japanese! Anyone know of an American source?

I don't ever recall seeing any daikaiju movies staring Anomarokarisu!?

I can't find any sites in English, but I found out Hank Fox can see into the future.

my pal ikoi is reading the page, and it's apparently custom-made to order, so you'd have to order it thataway.
she says there's not a price on the anomarokarisu but the toy car ones start at $250. that's like eleventy billion yen or something, isn't it

Yeah those are custom ordered. In fact it seems like they can make just about anything you want as long as its not a person, trademarked character or your pet.

This guy looks like a Vermicious Knid from Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator. I might have to get one.

You can see why theists think we're as weird as all get out.

You could ask Mary Robinette Kowal. She's a professional puppeteer, and she may be able to give you some ideas for either making your own, or she may know someone who could stitch one up for you.

Other than that, I've got nothing.

Neat Cthulhu plushies, but Entertainment Earth's privacy policy sucks. "You give us personal information, we flog it to half the planet."

Sorry I didn't make this one post, but the manufacturer can be found at http://www.toyvault.com/cthulhu/ and they have a list (bizarrely prefixed with a bunch of hex digit gobbledygook) of places to buy their products with much better privacy policies like http://www.trollandtoad.com/privacy.php and http://www.warehouse23.com/info/helpfaq.html#privacy

If you're going to shop for Cthulhu plushies, there are better places to shop. http://www.warehouse23.com/item.html?id=TYVHP517

You could make your own Kiwa hirsuta (Yeti crab). Patterns and sewing instructions are free.

I saw these instructions for making an origami Cthulu on BoingBoing.

Try Hobby Link Japan:

They might be able to hook you up.

This might the Pokeman Anorith, which according to Wikipedia was based on Anomalocaris.

Bah, I'm still waiting for an Opabinia plushie. :p

That does look pretty ez to make. How big is it? How about if your put one of those voiceboxes inside-- I have a baby otter that, when you squeeze it, cought, smooches, purrs, whines . . . it is a quantum leap forward, cuteness-wise. (What is the standard unit of cuteness?)

The Royal Ontario Museum has a set of Burgess Shale critters in plastic that are darn neat: http://www.rom.on.ca/collections/toys.php

Gawd, those giant microbe plushies are so cute. I ordered a brain cell. I saw PZ's lecture on the brain not having a ghost, but if brain cells have cute expressions like that--one has to wonder. (I'm referring to the "dolls" at giantmicrobes.com)

OK, but is the Simplicity pattern on file somewhere? Could somebody with a ruler knock one up? My mom has a sewing machine . . . .

According to the 'order' page, the animal you want is available by request- that is, they don't seem to make it and distribute it. I could be wrong, my Japanese is a bit rusty.

I sent the maker's info address and PZ an e-mail in Japanese and English asking how to order it.

I make lots of strange plush creatures as custom orders and have been asked for an anomalocaris recently - I'd be totally up for more orders!
