Of all the strange "crimes" that humanity has legislated out of nothing, "blasphemy" is the most amazing - with "obscenity" and "indecent exposure" fighting it out for second and third place.

"This is a wonderful story told to the people in the desert...to distract them from the fact that they didn't have air conditioning"

Yea, unfortunately, there may not have been any of that desert stuff, and the whole creation thing wasn't written till sometime in the sixth century BCE.

'I had been tasered by the concept of the devil.'

Absolute pure magical comedy GOLD.

This is one of my favorite parts from his act!

hehe!

"...I have thoughts..."

What was missing here, though, was the bit to the gist of, "What really bothers me is that the evangelicals are soooo sure they're interpreting Genesis correctly, when it's not their fucking book!"

Lewis Black is one of my favourite comedians at the moment, alongside Marcus Brigstocke, who I recently had the pleasure to see live - he was brilliant.

Lewis Black is great. :)

Still - the all-time best takedowns of religion go to Sam Kinison in "Breaking all the rules." Only an ex-preacher turned comic can dissect Jebus and make you laugh your ass off.

"REALITY!!!"

That should be the new response to all creationist claims.

This is exactly how EVERYONE should respond to creationists.

I can't be kind about this, because these people are watching the Flinstones as if it were a documentary.

That one's here. It's just as good.

Very nice. Up there with Bill Hicks, I think.

This is exactly how EVERYONE should respond to creationists.

"Do you believe that God created the universe?"

"No, I believe in reality."

"But God is reality."

"No, you misunderstand. RE-AL-ITY."

I actually think they'll find that more convincing than anything else, honestly. Just, y'know, say it with conviction, and without explaining. That's just their language.

wow, my face hurts from laughing :)

So how do you respond to someone who says that all the evidence for evolution is the work of the devil? Tazered is right. All I could come up with is a "so's yo momma" style response like, "Really? I've always considered the Bible to be the work of the devil. The devil and god are probably laughing their asses off over how you you think that pile of crap is true."

Hi there.
I am working on a new show for Comedy Central starring Lewis called "Lewis Black's Root Of All Evil" (not to be confused with Richard Dawkins' "Root of all Evil?") and it is basically a comedic court show where one comedian is an advocate for one aspect of evil and another comedian is an advocate for a different aspect of evil and Lewis is the judge who decides which is more evil.
It goes on the air in March 2008 and I think you will really enjoy it. Some of the topics: Paris Hilton vs Dick Cheney, YouTube vs Porn, Kim Jong-Il vs Tila Tequila, and the one that will probably cause the most controversy: Oprah vs Catholic Church.

I think the child-rape gives the church a slight edge, but oprah does give some good woo.
