Random Quote

However, on religious issures there can be little or no compromise. There is no position on which people are so immovable as their religious beliefs. There is no more powerful ally one can claim in a debate than Jesus Christ, or God, or Allah, or whatever one calls this supreme being. But like any powerful weapon, the use of God's name on one's behalf should be used sparingly. The religious factions that are growing throughout our land are not using their religious clout with wisdom. They are trying to force government leaders into following their position 100 percent. If you disagree with these religious groups on a particular moral issue, they complain, they threaten you with a loss of money or votes or both. I'm frankly sick and tired of the political preachers across this country telling me as a citizen that if I want to be a moral person, I must believe in "A," "B," "C," and "D." Just who do they think they are? And from where do they presume to claim the right to dictate their moral beliefs to me? And I am even more angry as a legislator who must endure the threats of every religious group who thinks it has some God-granted right to control my vote on every roll call in the Senate. I am warning them today: I will fight them every step of the way if they try to dictate their moral convictions to all Americans in the name of "conservatism.

[Senator Barry Goldwater]

$quid

I bet all they had to do was tell the investors what it is — an Australian musical romantic zombie comedy with giant cephalopods — and the money must have come rolling in for $QUID. I'd pay to see it.

Although…the teaser does need more squid in it.

Everything does.

Er, that should be, more cowbell.

Does a giant squid have enough squid for you?

Now that's acting. I can't believe they kept straight faces during that dialog...and then singing!

I have to know more.

A friendly request: I love me some cephalopods, but I can't help thinking that this excellent blog would be even more spectacular if cuttlefish were better represented. I have nothing against squid or octopus, mind you, but there's no need to be western-hemisphere-centric, and cuttlefish are just mind-staggeringly awesome.

In Soviet Australia giant squid teases you.

I guess a trip to Oceania just moved a lot higher up the list, eh?

Does this mean the genre of the Noughties is gonna be mad science musicals?

Maybe the problem is that they're apparently acidheads, at least the broadclub cuttlefish are (with pulsing psychedelic lines).

But seriously, what I'd like to know about cuttlefish is how they evolved the cuttlebone from a shell. It's probably not all that hard, but I've never heard of how it happened.

Interesting character list for the full-length version on IMDB:

Josh Lawson ... Chris / Tarzan
Ed Kavalee ... Jess / Mickey Mouse
Christian Clark ... Travis / James Dean
Henry Nixon ... Alan / Uncle Fester
Lauren Lillie ... Lucy Carter / Jane
Brooke Sheehan ... Danielle / Mortisha

Oh yes, I will be seeing this movie given half the chance :)

an Australian musical romantic zombie comedy with giant cephalopods

But...where are the zombies? The squid is at least alluded to, but I wanna see some zombies, too!

Wait...it just occurred to me...have I misinterpreted "zombie"? Is it being used in place of "sleeper", or are there really going to be undead with the squid? Personally, I'm hoping for undead, but I have a sneaking suspicion I may be wrong. Ah well, I still would love to see it :)

I'd pay to see it too, but no more than a couple of squid!

(Sorry! Where I come from, we say squid in place of quid in place of pounds - sterling, that is.)

Nice. Shades of "Dr. Horrible".

Heh, I live on that river. I'd be more worried about the bullsharks if I fell in than any giant, vindictive, loanshark squid.

Looks like a bit of a small river for a giant squid to be hanging out although at least it's brackish judging by the mangroves.

The investors are expecting their squid pro quo.

I agree there are definite squidist overtones to this blog. Acid or not, awesome is accurate.

My son and I were chasing a school one time (snorkelling off a Sydney beach). The adults spotted us and started talking in lights - tons of data exchanged, then 2 adults rounded up the young ones while the remaining adults swam toward us and taunted us to follow them (away from the young). Way kewl.
