Everyone and their mother is sending me a link to this flickr set, via Boing Boing, of something called "cephalerotica". I just don't know…there are all these clumsy mammals inserted into the art that distract from the erotic part.

Life in Lubbock, Texas, taught me two things: One is that God loves you and you're going to burn in hell. The other is that sex is the most awful, filthy thing on earth and you should save it for someone you love.

WOW!! What a beautiful Octo-Pussy on the one girl,I wonder what function the tentacles perform?
Posted by: Ignorant Atheist | January 3, 2009 10:52 AM
Is porn using seafood called "prawn?" ;)
Posted by: clinteas | January 3, 2009 10:53 AM
Im very disappointed that NBWAW even wants to report this to the flickr overlords.
Cant see anything wrong with it at all,NSFW,meh....
Posted by: 'Tis Himself | January 3, 2009 11:00 AM
I agree with PZed, all the mammals are quite unnecessary for enjoyment of the cephalerotica.
Posted by: Stephen | January 3, 2009 11:09 AM
I'll be honest, my attention is mostly on the mammals.
Posted by: Sven DiMilo | January 3, 2009 11:09 AM
A few of those mammals look...OK...to me. Some fine octopuses too.
Posted by: MH | January 3, 2009 11:10 AM
@clinteas
We might not see anything wrong with it, but an employer might. A 'NSFW' tag is a courtesy, and I'm surprised that PZ didn't add one to this post.
Posted by: blf | January 3, 2009 11:18 AM
There are cephalopods in those pictures?
Goes back and takes yet another look ...
Oh, yeah, I guess there are.
Posted by: God Retardent | January 3, 2009 11:19 AM
Reminds me of an old sea song
Once I saw an octopus
out in the deep blue sea
I called out , "Miss. Octopus,
Won't you play with me?"
Then out came her tentacles,
very long and straight
Oh my goodness,
eight ways to masturbate!
Posted by: Zeno | January 3, 2009 11:21 AM
I saw that on Boing Boing last night and said to myself, "Quick! PZ must be informed!" And then I wised up and said (again to myself; no one else is here), "Wait a minute, everyone and his aunt will be sending this to his attention." I never for a moment suspected it would be mothers instead. (My mom would never send you naughty pictures like that.)
Posted by: LaTomate | January 3, 2009 11:27 AM
Mea culpa, I could not resist.
Posted by: Tim Fuller | January 3, 2009 11:34 AM
Definitely NSFW, but I believe that is pretty well inferred in the intro.
Bets on how long these are still up on Flickr?
Enjoy.
Posted by: Doubting Foo | January 3, 2009 11:46 AM
I'll never be able to look at a squid in the same way again...or eat one... ;-)
Posted by: Quidam | January 3, 2009 11:59 AM
I think a more accurate description would be necrocephalerotica.
Draping dead mollusks over female mammals improves the appearance of neither
Posted by: mayhempix | January 3, 2009 11:59 AM
I saw it at Boing Boing too... but knew you would get plenty of notice from the other godless immoral atheists.
Posted by: Cruithne | January 3, 2009 12:12 PM
would those pictures be classified as Vagina Tentata?
Oh, please yourselves.
Anyway, I guess it takes all sorts. Anyone remember Alan Moore's wonderful creation the little pervert space alien called Zirk ?
Zirk had a real fetish for tentatcled things that thrashed!
Posted by: clinteas | January 3, 2009 12:16 PM
Beats the title of my favourite music album,"Red Skies over Paradise"
i would have to agree.
Posted by: Naked Bunny with a Whip | January 3, 2009 12:16 PM
@clinteas #3: Well, it's not like I have a problem with nudity. The owner of the photostream just needs to reclassify them so they don't appear under the default "family-friendly" filter. It's not like he'll have to take them down. (I'm assuming he holds the copyright to those images when I say that.)
I post some far more explicit stuff on my stream, but I abide by Flickr's TOS when I do it. If he doesn't like the rules, there are other places to host images.
Posted by: Eclogite | January 3, 2009 12:17 PM
Poor dead octopi. :-(
Posted by: Shamar | January 3, 2009 12:18 PM
If you stare at the pictures long enough....you might notice some cephalopods in the pictures too! It might be too hard to get your mind off of the girls to notice though.
Posted by: clinteas | January 3, 2009 12:19 PM
NBWAW,
fair enough, that would seem easy to do.
I always took you for a Deviant Art person anyway..:-)
Posted by: Naked Bunny with a Whip | January 3, 2009 12:28 PM
Yeah, I think I use Flickr just because I already have an account due to using Yahoo Mail.
Posted by: Naked Bunny with a Whip | January 3, 2009 12:31 PM
Grammar fail, Nakie Buns. -_-

"A 'NSFW' tag is a courtesy, and I'm surprised that PZ didn't add one to this post."
Yeah, because simply referring to a link to flickr photos as being a form or erotica wasn't enough warning. </rolleyes>
Posted by: Susan | January 3, 2009 12:44 PM
Hmph. As I expected: Too much rape porn, not enough naked male mammals.
Posted by: Sastra | January 3, 2009 12:53 PM
Very lovely, though I couldn't help imagining the possible reactions of some of the poor models when informed about the nature of the shot:
"Ok, here, put this on." "What the hell is that??!!" "Look, it's artistic, okay? It probably doesn't bite, I don't think those are teeth or anything. We'll snap it real quick."
Posted by: Enshoku | January 3, 2009 12:56 PM
I bet anything that those images had something to do with Japan in some way...
Posted by: BlindRobin | January 3, 2009 1:00 PM
sex and food...
always a good match
Posted by: PennyBright | January 3, 2009 1:14 PM
Oy. Poor dead octopuses indeed. Conceptually interesting, but bestiality is questionable enough - necrophiliac bestiality even more so.
IMHO, tentacle porn should stay safely in the realms of hentai.
Posted by: tripwire | January 3, 2009 1:30 PM
Now it's only a matter of time before everyone starts sending their Japanese tentacle rape anime to PZ...
Posted by: Larry | January 3, 2009 1:33 PM
PZ,
Which pic are you using for your screensaver??
Posted by: Zeno | January 3, 2009 1:42 PM
I infer that you should have said "implied" there.
Posted by: JM Inc. | January 3, 2009 2:11 PM
Oh, PZ, we didn't know you were into hentai. Whatever does the old trophy wife think, hmmm?
Posted by: Lsuoma | January 3, 2009 2:17 PM
Cephaloporn has a long and honorable history, and one of the masters of Japanese art was producing much hotter stuff many, many years ago. For example (this may be NSFW (where W==work or wowsers)):
The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife
Posted by: Tim Fuller | January 3, 2009 2:19 PM
Infer or imply? You're probably smarter than me on the exact usage, but since I used it the way I did, it is totally acceptable.
When I do it, it's not an abuse of the language.....and yes I just finished watching Frost/Nixon.
Enjoy.
Posted by: Monado | January 3, 2009 3:56 PM
The whole account is gone, anyway.
Posted by: AdamK | January 3, 2009 4:10 PM
It is perhaps arguable that that phrase could be construed something like "...it is pretty well [to be] inferred [from the material contained] in the intro." As long as TF receives the generous benefit of the doubt.

To all who have said it is down, I just accessed it via PZed's link above.
Interesting.
Ciao

@Tim Fuller (#35):
"Infer or imply?"
Imply... or implode?
Posted by: MH | January 3, 2009 6:05 PM
The Flickr set has been deleted, but apparently all of the photos were taken from this 39 page thread.
NSFW, of course.

There's a difference between prudery and prudence.
Sure, we may not be perturbed by these pictures, but maybe our human resource departments would be. A tag is all we desire.

One of the images on "The Award-winning Cephalopoda Erotica Thread" seems to be an image by artist of nature Glen Loates of a sperm whale hunting squid.
Posted by: jpf | January 4, 2009 12:21 AM
Chances are this has already been linked to in some other comment, but here's a great Japanese ad for, I'm guessing, some sort of topical ointment for octopuses.
Posted by: Jesse | January 4, 2009 12:45 AM
Awww, it's telling me the page is private! Anyone help?
Posted by: Cactus Wren | January 4, 2009 1:26 AM
There is brief cephalerotic imagery in this commercial.
Posted by: melior | January 4, 2009 3:53 AM
I can't view the flickr set, first it forced me to create an identity, now it says that photo set is "private". I wish people would avoid user-hostile photo sites.

The Flickr set's been pulled, the author chimed in on BoingBoing and pointed to a place the naughtiness continues:

There are a number of fish species which have "sneaky males" in addition to regular males. The sneaky males look and act like females or juveniles.
