Random Quote

It really comes down to parsimony, economy of explanation. It is possible that your car engine is driven by psychokinetic energy, but if it looks like a petrol engine, smells like a petrol engine and performs exactly as well as a petrol engine, the sensible working hypothesis is that it is a petrol engine.

I dunno - I think they screwed the pooch on the prime directive a looonnnggg time ago.

Oh, how I have missed Mr. Deity. I wonder what took so long for the third season?

#3

Posted by: Sili Author Profile Page | June 12, 2009 6:55 PM

At least this god does his own begging instead of leaving it to the clergy.

#4

Posted by: Holbach Author Profile Page | June 12, 2009 7:04 PM

It's a good thing the girl didn't deny the existence of a god. Then a mere stoning would not be sufficient. the stoning to death would be simultaneous with disembalment, drawing and quartering, hacking off limbs, and whatever can be done to enhance the mere stoning. You deny our god? We deny your life.

If Mr Deity's Jesus would make an appearance in my bedroom, I'd convert like *that*

#6

I'm thrilled that Mr. Deity has resumed his ministry.

#7

Oh happy days, oh joy!

I thought Mr. Diety was gone.

This, 26 new episodes of Futurama, man oh man, the only thing sweeter would be for Josh Whelan to announce a new three-season committment for "Firefly".

Great work, but NonStampCollector did this one even better.

I think you mean "Joss Whedon". We may have to revoke your fanboi status.

#10

Two words: PRIME DIRECTIVE!

#11

Posted by: Erin | June 12, 2009 8:11 PM

PZ, I'm gonna give BruceJ the benefit of the doubt. It's a common meme among Whedonites to poke fun at the way everyone always misspells Joss' name by coming up with humorous new misspellings (Joss even does it himself on occasion), so it's sometimes hard to tell...

Also, this is the first time I've seen this series, and I am delighted. It's fantastic! Off now to track down the earlier stuff.

Holy crap!!! Is it just me or is Jesus *HOT*?!!?!111//??

#13

I'm soooo happeee..

Prime directive. :D

#14

And to think that for the longest time I thought that Mr. Deity did not actually exist!

#15

Posted by: 2-D Man | June 12, 2009 10:44 PM

Well, we can tell he's not the real Mr. Deity. The real Mr. Deity would have taken 2000 years to return. Pshaw!

I second MAJeff, OM @ 5!

@Holbach (#4):

the stoning to death would be simultaneous with disembalment

I dunno. That sounds like more of a punishment for guys.

#18

Posted by: Ms. Abominable | June 13, 2009 12:38 AM

God damn, Jesse is HOT! I'd get on my knees for that...

#19

Posted by: Nibien | June 13, 2009 5:21 AM

Ugh, all this sexism.

#20

Posted by: Scott | June 13, 2009 9:00 AM

Hey, he could be mixing up Michael Whelan with Joss Whedon. Both have SF connections.

#21

Posted by: Stogoe Author Profile Page | June 13, 2009 10:23 AM

It's a lot easier for animated series to come back - drawings don't age, and voice work is easier to schedule than an entire film crew. You can do it piecemeal if you have to. It can even overlap with the actors' other projects, unlike trying to be on two live-action shows at once.

I don't expect Firefly to come back, though it would indeed be awesomer than anything ever done in the history of human civilization.

#22

Posted by: Falyne, FCD | June 13, 2009 10:49 AM

Heh, that was funny.

And I have to say, I agree with the other commenters; that's a Jesus I'd be glad to welcome the Second Coming of. ^_^

#23

Posted by: Falyne, FCD | June 13, 2009 11:03 AM

And, hey, Nibien, when every single man in media is expected to be hawt, and it's generally understood that a man cannot normally be both attractive and smart, then it'll be sexist to comment lewdly on guys. Right now, it's just lewd. And fun.

Besides, plenty of the 'sexist' commenters are dudes. :-)

Just to give this thread a little balance. I would so sell my soul to the Lucy, if I could only remember where I put it.

I have already sold my soul to Lucy, and it's no fun. Hey PZ! Thanks for the post. And hello to all my fellow commenters. I've been diggin' the PZ blog for a while. It's nice to know he's following our "podcast" as well. B

Hey, I've seen Lucy, and she looks fun -- as long as you aren't going to insist on being on top.

#27

*dies from fangirl squee seeing Mr. Deity post*

#28

Posted by: LRA | June 13, 2009 9:49 PM

Hey, FCD-- I think the comment about sexism was about the actual video where they clearly joke about the double standard of women and not men having to be virgins. I don't think it's about our comments on the general *hawtness!!!* of Jesse/Jesus. (Yes, I'm happy to say again that he is so frakkin hawt! Second coming indeed!)

Scott,

Science Fantasy/Speculative Fiction ain't Science Fiction.

Funny to see the 'Jesse is hot!' comments. That was one of the arguments I had to make my wife watch Mr.Deity back when I had discovered it. They sure know what they're doing and who their target audience is :)
Admittedly I would not rule out developing a man-crush in time...

#31

Oh Yay!!
I love Mr Diety :D
Thanks for linking PZ! and nice to see you taking an interest Mr D! - Could you possibly go on over to "the thread that won't die" and tell the delugionists to get a life and stop spouting on about some ridiculous flood please? That would be great - thanks! :DD

I think Mr. Deity is amazing; I love the shows.

I am so thrilled that new episodes are coming! Apparently, I'm not the only one...

Thanks for the intro to Mr. Deity. My day is now completely ruined, as instead of working, I am going to be over on his site watching videos. Hopefully, I can also sneak in a donation or something.

Great stuff.
