These aren't quite pointless polls, since comments are actually being solicited instead of mindless clicks, but you can still swamp the forces of silliness in thise two blog entries.
One asks, Charles Darwin: brilliant scientist or agent of Satan?. You can give any kind of answer you want, like "Charles Darwin was a brilliant scientific agent of Satan!". Have fun.
The second one sounds even more fun: recommend new names for Falwell's Liberty University. I'm going to have to echo Hitchens' infamous comment about Falwell post mortem, and suggest that since the place has voided itself of it's biggest chunk of effluent, it should now be called Matchbox U.

It is unfair to kindergartens out there that try to do a good job of educating their young charges. In fact I think most kindergartens would be more intellectually rigerous. Kids at them have to do things like work out just what is the best consistancy of sand to make a sandcastle. Liberty students doing civ eng would just assume god would take care of such details.

Do you think that a majority of Americans are actually competent to assess the theory? Don't you realize that many of them, usually the less intelligent ones who've been brainwashed by religion, can't resolve the conflict in their minds between rationalism & superstition?

Mindful of Dawkins description of Liberty, I propose "Debauching the Whole Idea of a University".
A little wordy, but it gets the point across.
"If it's really true, that the museum at Liberty University has dinosaur fossils which are labelled as being 3000 years old, then that is an educational disgrace. It is debauching the whole idea of a university, and I would strongly encourage any members of Liberty University who may be here... to leave and go to a proper university."

Now,now - it's well known that there were still dinosaurs around 3000 years ago that could fossilise.
Heck, I had a lovely piece of dinosaur for lunch yesterday. A nice fillet of Gallus domesticus, cooked with eleven secret herbs and spices.
So if Restrictions-On-Liberty University want to pay homage to evolution by labelling 3000 year old chicken bones as dinosaurs, then good for them. ;) I mean, surely they wouldn't display a T-Rex shinbone like that!

[OT] @Dahan #6: That site is hilarious, and the title "Think Again" has to be one of the greatest oxymorons. I think Ms. Kersten demonstrates how the religious typically invent reality to fit into their claims; upon mere haphazard inspection of her claims, it is clear that none of them are true. I've seen another blog with equally dumb claims - the author was yapping about ethics and what atheist ethics might be like - and as an example he drags up the ghost of slavery within the US - an institution wholly promoted by most religions - and he says that's what atheist ethics would be like. It's hilarious to see people pull up examples of xian ethics and morals and claim that they're examples of atheist ethics and morals.

eddie@55,
OT, but so was your comment. Neither the Conservative Party nor UKIP is particularly religious. Rather it has been New Labour's leaders (first Blair, then Brown) who have paraded their Christianity. Not that this has had any relevance to the results of the European elections in the UK: Brown's deep unpopularity, New Labour's ongoing disintegration, and the expenses scandal have caused its abysmal results.

Do you enjoy being a liar forJesusAllah?Evidence to support evolutionary theory:
- fossil record - there are a plethora of fossils showing species that once were that are no more, including many transitional forms between major groups. There's plenty of feathered dinosaurs and dinosaurs with only partially developed wings. There are transitions between fish and tetrapods. There are fossils between reptiles and mammals. And fossils at every major intersection for humans and all other primates.
- Pseudogenes - There are genetic markers such as pseudogenes, these are genes that have been switched off in the evolutionary process but their inactive code still remains. We can use pseudogenes to not only show common ancestry but show the divergence between the last common ancestor of varying species
- Biogeographical distribution of life - Ever wonder why kangaroos are only in Australia? Yet they are marsupials, like most other mammals here. Koalas, wombats, tasmanian devils, bandicoots, possums, etc. Yet we don't see kangaroos in Europe or Asia. No Kangaroos in Africa or the Americas. Only on this island and they are plentiful.
- Vestigial organs - just look at the kiwi bird. It has nothing but stubs. Yet it is still definitely a bird, just one that has turned flightless. The little stubs serve as a reminder of its evolutionary past, much like the hipbones of a snake or whale.
- Observed speciation - Yep, we have seen the origin of new species both in the lab and in the wild. We know that the process of life can create new species because we have observed it.
Is that enough for you, or should I keep going? Something tells me that you couldn't care less what the evidence for evolution is, all you care about is calling it a religion (which I'll ignore the irony of this situation) and being a Liar for Allah. There is so much evidence that confirms evolutionary theory, to say otherwise is to either be ignorant of the evidence or to lie. In your case, I'm willing to bet it's a little of both.Evolution is confirmed by the biological sciences every time a peer review article is published on biology. Every time there is an observation done in a laboratory or out in the wild. Evolution has had millions of chances to be falsified, but in the 150 years of the theory not a single experiment has done this... and this idea has been extensively tested throughout the age. Replace God with nothing and you're going to get people up in arms.
So to me you have two choices:
1. learn what evolution is
2. accept you reject evolution out of ideology
Your choice...

Its reading comprehension has already been shown to poor, so it's not much of a stretch to imagine it thinking it said something to the effect of “you're a fecking idiot” rather than “don't worry, your comment has been accepted”. After all, the message does say, in bold, something to the effect of “please don't post again”. Someone with poor reading comprehension and/or reasoning abilities could take that quite literally.

Smoggy,
I didn't pull your post, though you aren't the first to have accused me of that.
All posts go into a queue for approval before they hit the boards. Until then, it appears on the poster's screen as if it's there. But if you refresh the screen, it will disappear until I approve it.
You have no idea how hard it was for me Sunday to keep up with all the posts from Pharyngulites!
BTW, I've named the winners. Here's the link:

And here's the place to go if you still want to play (no more prizes, though): http://blogs.roanoke.com/rtblogs/dancasey/2009/06/02/contest-no-2-lets-rename-liberty-u-to-just-about-anything-but-liberty/
Sincerely,

I don't have a new name for Liberty University, but I can paraphrase Dante's Inferno for a motto: "Lasciate ogni scienza, voi ch'entrate."
Unfortunately, the pun doesn't work in English. Abandon all science ("scienza") in place of the original abandon all hope ("speranza"), ye who enter. Oh well....

So, how many of my posts did you block Dan? I remember a couple that did not appear. It would bother me to a massive degree if a member of the press was involved in censorship.

I'll repeat the idea I posted on Casey's blog thread:

Jamshed Moidu has a real woody for Adnan Oktar. His homoerotic crush on this criminally dense "intellectual" leads Jamshed to put lots and lots of pictures of Oktar on his sycophantic website. What a sad wannabe you are Jamhead.
