Don't tell Jerry, but aren't pictures of baby kitties a cheap way to get some eyeballs? At least it's a nice story about a few animals coming back to the wilderness.

o.k. P.Z., you've crossed the line. Isn't it enough that you have a million readers a month, while I get about a tenth of that? Or that you already have a weekly animal? Now you are posting KITTENS? I have had enough of your risible postings, and I am forced to ask, in lieu of a lawsuit, for a camera. I have a friend with a Leica, whose name I will give you. And I want a pony, too. And a life.

That is an adorable picture... It helps to ease the stress of having to give a talk tomorrow. I'm not a seasoned talker like PZ...

If I was a momma-lynx I would be NOT AT ALL happy having some Colorado biologists poking around in my private maternity-den.

First it was Ida, now another news report of finding the missing lynx...es.

But it is very cute. And I've already got a soft spot for the lynx... But I'm not going to start baby-typing.

Is a kitten really cuter and more eyeball-getting than a baby echidna? How about a grub? In the interest of science, I believe you must ask fellow bloggers to send in their scientifically verified submissions of neonates. Then we can vote.

Don't forget to add the giant hornet grubs from Ed Young's blog -- the video of them thumping their jaws on the sides of their hatching cells is especially effective.

We are amused. Prof Coyne fits right in.

I should buy his book, really.

Is that what we'd call inflated cuteness?

It's a puffball, only with fur, and huge enchanting eyes.

Not to be too skeptical, and lynx kittens are not an incredible claim... but are those back paws/feet consistent with a lynx, or any cat? Doesn't the foot look more rodent like?

Bitch, bitch, bitch. I'm lucky if I get a hundreth of your traffic. You are so neglected.

Tell you what, PZ sends you a Leica, you send me whatever you can get on sale in the camera department at Wal-Mart. Either that, or I send you the latest kitteh picture on Zooborns.

(Don't push me, I play dirty.)

OK, I've been wondering about this for a couple of weeks, and am now compelled to ask: If you want more traffic, why don't you link to your blog in the URL box when you leave comments here?

I'm so curious! :)

I want a camera, and a pony, and a life, and a cute baby lynx, and a car, and my own radio show with my name on it, and for Francis Collins to be my childhood best friend from when we went to Camp Eeecherlunch together at age 6. That's what I want.

Oh this is one of those threads ...

I want nude photos of David Marjanovic(´ goes over the c).

And a job.

That doesn't involve teaching.

And pays well.

With a pension.

And more photos of Sastra too.

Taken with a Leika.

By Jerry Coyne.

Dear P.Z.,

Since I have not heard from you about your risible and quite idiotic misappropriation of the cat picture idea from my site, I am forced to raise my demands to include not only a Leica, a pony, and a life, but also documentation of your birth certificate, as I reluctantly suspect that you are not in fact a human but an IDiot Borg Drone. I must say that I find your internet stalking quite unacceptable.

If you are not forthcoming with these items, I will be forced to report you not only to the president of your university, but also to the president of Brown University, the head of Stuyvestant High School, the CEO of Facebook, and to my good friend Ben Moller, whom I had the great honor of helping prepare for a debate twenty years ago.

Bah. Crappy cute lynx.

If is isn't gigantic, red, living in a secret hideout in the Antarctic, and genetically engineered, what good is it?

#7 & 10 Yes, baby Echindas are really cute, even in the white squirmy stage. And I really love the Australian name for a baby Echidna - it's a Puggle!

the missing lynx...es

I was under the impression that the plural is 'lynges', by analogy with pharynx / pharynges and sphinx / sphinges.
The same geometric logic leads me to the conclusion that if a door has two hinges, and one breaks, then the remaining one is a hinx.

Posted by: Tim @ 14 "Not to be too skeptical, and lynx kittens are not an incredible claim... but are those back paws/feet consistent with a lynx, or any cat? Doesn't the foot look more rodent like?"

My thought as well Tim at first. But I know very little kitties will splay their toes and dig in with claws when moving around until they get strong enough to walk properly. Do lynx kittens have longer back toes than other kittens? I think its claws are buried in the soil.

PS on Comment 26 - the article mentioned that lynx have large back feet.
