How wonderful to have a high-res version of this image available.

This is so sweet. Ha, even Satan is horrified! Is that some intestine in the hands of Lincoln. *whisper* "the horror...the horror"

In case anyone is interested, here is the original. I think it is a brilliant parody.

@Janine,

pretty much every caption would have to say something like, "Cthulu has come. You are doomed!"

I think this is a more believable origin of our current government. But where is the reanimated corpse of Dick Cheney? He would be drawn to this much evil like a fly to feces. Well, at least we now know what document Cheney kept in his man sized safe.

Yeti Christo would never stand for this much evil

Immigrant

Why does he have his hand up like that? There are many unspeakable things in America, they are not all fishmen. I wanted him to be a faceless horror when he realizes where the source of America's demise comes from, as he sees Cthulhu risen from the sea. We live in a country where we are free to die at the hands of many gods.

One nation under Cthulhu! In the Elder Gods we trust!

This is a truly fantastic parody. I can just imagine how the fundies will react when they see it.

LafinJack, stop taunting me. PZ's promise of a high-res version didn't pan out (766x517 is NOT high-res), so I came to the comments looking for an actual high-res version, and there you were, with another empty promise.

Cthulu! Why hast thou forsaken me?

Ok, there's a big version at this link, and a super massive version can be downloaded from here. (Supposedly. I haven't checked the download link. It's one of those annoying fileshare sites filled with bothersome ads and such.)

Gah, I swear I meant to click preview rather than post. Let's try this again.

@Marcus

Thanks for linking to klaivu's original. It's genuinely terrific. Plus, that thread has lots of fun in it.

Someone made an animated gif of the original and the improved versions. I think it was a Redditor. I will try and find a link.

Here we go.

Also, someone over at Reddit found a way of injecting it into the official McNaughton Fine Art web page: link

As an amateur artist, I must say there was nowhere for the original to go but up! But this takes a hilariously bad over-the-top piece of kitsch and turns it into something chtulu-tastic and simply amazing. Clearly this nation was founded on Lovecraftian Principles! Anything else is revisionist history!

#28

Posted by: Prof. Henry Armitage Author Profile Page | October 10, 2009 4:58 PM

@#27

Oh come now, the original was technically quite good, despite its triteness. However, the improved version was inspired. I'd love to see it on the next Freedom From Religion Foundation billboard.

#29

Posted by: Jadehawk, OM Author Profile Page | October 10, 2009 5:27 PM

ah, finally. a historically accurate version of the origin of the U.S. constitution. and artistically far more pleasing, as well.

May the artist be eaten first.

I love the way the lawyer remains oblivious to it all and still blithely counts out his money.Having said that, when I recall some of the shitbag partners I've worked for in firms, it kind of is just another day at the office.

Weird, I previewed and my link worked fine there, but I didn't check it again after hitting post. Good thing skeptical scientist was there to save the day.

This really is one of the best pshop retouches I've ever seen! Kudos for technical skill and design/ originality. Love all those distorted faces!

It's almost as creepy as the original.

Cthulhu will eat you first. That will spare you the horror of watching the others being eaten.

Trust me. I understand these things. :)

Alternately, you could simply select "download" on the picture's menu bar on the Photobucket page and click "hi res image". That's what I did, anyway.

Skeptical Scientist, the link is right under the picture PZ linked to.
True, but it disappears when you click the image for a larger version, so I missed it at first.

Wow. Amazing! (And where did Jesus from the original picture go? I assume Cthulhu ate him. Now *that's* a Eucharist!)

For the Cthulhu fans (and I hope that's all of us), here's another piece of artwork in a similar tentacled vein. The pic is from a CRACKED Photoshop contest. It's scary, the talent out there on the Interwebs...

To the artist, would an Elric inspired picture be too much to ask?

Yes, Archereon, it would be nice to have an Elric inspired picture. I think Elric of Meiniboné would be a most wonderful addition.

I don't think they will be pleased. But they opened the door with their creepy work in the first place.

I want to sing, "I want to get tentacles," to the tune of the Olivia Newton John song, "Physical," but I am VERY evil.
