Another atheist in Fargo

Category: GodlessnessLocal
Posted on: December 8, 2009 12:52 AM, by PZ Myers

This is short notice, but hey, it's not like the residents of North Dakota could have anything else planned*: August Berkshire, that other atheist in Minnesota, will be speaking in Fargo on Tuesday evening.

Tuesday, December 8, 2009, 7:00 pm - August Berkshire, past vice president of Atheist Alliance International, will do his one-hour presentation "Exploring Atheism" for a meeting hosted by Atheists, Agnostics & Secular Humanists (AASH) in the Rose Room of Memorial Union, North Dakota State University (NDSU), Fargo, ND. Free and open to the public.

*After that opening potshot, the North Dakotans will be snarling at me…it's OK, of the two noisy atheists in Minnesota, August is the nice one. Go see him and find out.

Doesn't Greg Laden live in Minnesota? He counts as an atheist, doesn't he?

There's a whole two atheists in Minnesota? Egads, the clown-nailed-to-a-tree cult is, amazingly, right: It's a dogless wasteland, overlorded by commie liberal fascist Teh Gay baby-eating slaveholding daemons from the deepest hottest shitfull netherhells (near where earthquakes and porn are made).

Are there any beer volcanoes there? 'Cept for the snow (and presumably a few other things) almost sounds like paradise!

Abstruseoddity - I'll let you into a secret. PZed doesn't exist - he's actually a character made up by a committee of three baptists, two mormons and Bora.

I'd love to go, but Fargo is a ways from my bit of ND and it's during the week...can't make it.

Go away, Mabus.

I had no idea that you were Incan, Mabus.

It is pointless to engage with a troll with the reasoning abilies of a mocking bird.

Doesn't look like that time in the mental hospital helped much.

He will be back there soon enough. Soon the month long incarcerations will turn into years, then decades.

Fish @ 17:

Why is the crazy person linking to James Randi and Rational Response Squad?

Because Mabus is crazy. Delusional obsessive crazy. Spam spam spam spam spam crazy. Annoying too.

Sometimes I think speciation will occur without geographic isolation and just thought isolation.
The loonies will breed with loonies , the rational with the rational. .

I know its an absurdity, but watching the piles of rubbish posted here.. its a recurring thought.

August Berkshire is great! He's really done a lot of good work for the movement. I'd love to see him speak, if I wasn't way down south.

On another note, CNN currently has a phenomenally stupid poll up on its front page:

Do you believe global warming is a proven fact caused by man?

Sigh.

I was joking. Minnesota is swarming with atheists. Mabus has his work cut out for him if he really expects to exterminate us all by wandering about to Montreal internet cafe's to post whining screeds to the web.

Evidence #2010-A-1438 for "religion is evil" :

New Ugandan anti_homosexuality bill:

• Gays and lesbians convicted of having gay sex would be sentenced, at minimum, to life in prison

• People who test positive for HIV may be executed

• Homosexuals who have sex with a minor, or engage in homosexual sex more than once, may also receive the death penalty

• The bill forbids the "promotion of homosexuality," which in effect bans organizations working in HIV and AIDS prevention

• Anyone who knows of homosexual activity taking place but does not report it would risk up to three years in prison

Of course, it has the blessing of many religious leaders -- Muslim and Christian :

The Rev. Esau Omara, a senior church leader, said over the weekend that any lawmaker opposing the bill will pay for it during the next election, according to local newspaper reports.

And a leading Muslim cleric, Sheikh Ramathan Shaban Mubajje, has called for gays to be rounded up and banished to an island until they die.

Who will go to HIV testing if he knows that he will suffer the death sentence?

Strictly speaking there have been a few religious leaders against the bill (very few in Uganda (I'm not sure about Minnesota or North Dakota), notably Canon Gideon Byamugisha who has called it "state-legislated genocide").

Do you mean Borat? That idea actually tickles me rather nicely.

No snarling from me PZ!....it's true, there really is nothing else to do in ND. Anyway, chalk down one Fargo atheist going to the talk :)

I had to bake cookies for a student bake sale taking place tomorrow. I hope folks down south in Fargo had a good evening.
