The world is a mirror representing the divine life… Intelligent design readily embraces the sacramental nature of physical reality. Indeed, intelligent design is just the Logos theology of John's Gospel restated in the idiom of information theory.

Pretty pretty.

Very festive.

I can just see all the little cephalopods hanging eight tiny stockings in their coconut shells, waiting for the Spotted One to arrive.

Not a creature was stirring, not even a barnacle.

Not a creature was stirring, not even a barnacle.

Like many crustaceans, barnacles seldom stir. They're more the shaken type.

No, sorry. I've been around for enough winter solstices to know that it isn't Santa unless it's wearing a red-and-white fuzzy hat. That can only mean that this is... [gasps] THE ANTI-SANTA!

Yup. Anti-Claus is a real buzz-killer.
Presents? We don' need no steenking presents.

Who's all red with spots of white?
Santa's all red with spots of white!
Whose eight arms can hold you tight?
Santa's eight arms can hold you tight!

Spots of white! Hold you tight!

Must be Santa, must be Santa,
Must be Santa, Santa Cephalopod!

Who lives in the ocean deep?
Santa lives in the ocean deep!
Who comes crawling when you sleep?
Santa comes crawling when you sleep!

Ocean deep! When you sleep!
Spots of white! Hold you tight!

Must be Santa, must be Santa,
Must be Santa, Santa Cephalopod!

Who has arms that number eight?
Santa has arms that number eight!
Who sneaks around when it's really late?
Santa sneaks around when it's really late!

Number eight! Really late!
Ocean deep! When you sleep!
Spots of white! Hold you tight!

Must be Santa, must be Santa,
Must be Santa, Santa Cephalopod!

(I'd write more, but I really can't stand that song... Happy Cephalopodmas, one and all!)

If it was a choice of this pretty cephalopod or a creepy, over weight old man breaking into my home at night, I know which one I would choose.

*Here's a hint; the cephalopod would not prompt me to immediately call the police and possibly seek to pummel the intruder with whatever conveniently heavy and/or pointed object came to hand. A mad man in a Santa suit, on the other hand, may illicit just such a reaction*

@17 - "elicit" not "illicit".

Cephalopods are notoriously nitpicky spellers.

Well, SC, I thank you. I think. In consolation, at least you have better words for your earworm.

Sorry, my bad. I did not mean to use the term 'illicit', even though clobbering said intruder would doubtless be illegal. Elicit it is.

*note to self; remmember to double check all spelling before posting.*

Really?
Nobody has noted the resemblance of this li'l dude to Amanita muscaria?

The possible original source of Santa's canonical red-and-white outfit?

It all comes full circle again.

While we are talking of resemblances, consider Rafflesia arnoldii?
