In what may be the only good use of Ray Comfort's version of the Origin, a copy is up for sale on ebay, with some added signatures. It's a fundraiser for Skepticon III, so if you're a collector of weird memorabilia, here's your chance.

Perhaps there was an organization in Phineas' day known as the N.A.A.C.P. (National Association for the Advancement of Canaanite People) who took exception with this teaching of segregation. Perhaps there were pulpits proclaiming a more tolerant and socially accepted view and government agency crusading for 'affirmative action.' We really do not know; but we do know from the Bible story in Numbers chapter 25 that the Israel people began to disobey God's law, accept integration, cultural exchange and a type of interracial marriage, and thus were struck collectively by a plague. Phineas was the man who courageously fought against the racial treason even to the point of bloodshed, and he too was honored by God.

There's a lot of good use in Comfort's version of Origin. For instance, there's a groundbreaking (if somewhat dated) book in it, a list of stupid things creationists say in response.
It's unfortunate, of course, that the intelligent parts are in a small font and cramped format, while the idiocy is easy to read.
Nonetheless, there's plenty of good use for the book, mostly because the scientist's text shows what a fraud Comfort and his intro. are.

Whoo, nice.
Hey your entry says you hate God... How the hell can you hate something 100% not real?

This is the first time I've seen the ISBN of the book. I thought people might be interested in the libraries that have told OCLC WorldCat that they have the book. I see UC-Santa Barbara, Bethel College, Indiana University, University of Kansas, University of South Carolina, UT-Austin, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Shepherd University, University of Calgary, and Oxford University.
The catalog entry contains the following text: "The introduction is a creationist criticism of Darwin."
The libraries don't seem too tricked by Ray Comfort.

Deo, me Deo,
No god come but me wan' new home;

Come mister Darwin man, riddle me banana,
No god come but me wan' new home;
Found lots of ignorance in Americana,
Get de sum from de mugs down home.
It's one day, two day, three day, Earth!
Daylight late an' de life can't grow;
Four day, five day, six day, birth!
All are wrong but de folks don't know.

I got a copy of the ebays right after it came out. $25, that included shipping. I just had to have one and that was my only way to get it. I will put it on my book shelf right next to the real Darwin books.

On a lark, I asked a bookseller today if they were getting "the latest edition of On the Origin of Species." She looked at me and said, "Oh, you mean the trash Ray Comfort tried to pass off?" It was quite funny because she has seen how much Stenger and Suskind I have been getting over the past three years. Ray's efforts are going to end up redounding against him because they give skeptics and scientists an opportunity to refute *in print* point by vapid point every argument he claims.

What? Nobody has noticed this in the description of the signers:
"PZ Myers, likes squid an awful lot, but hates God (despite His having created squid)"

Damn, I wish I still had a job so I could spend $260+ to get this copy. I totally would/could have a year ago. poop.
or wish I was still in school so I maybe could have gotten a copy for free. Strange that I am only willing to get a copy for free or hundreds?

I know what I want for Hannukah!
Seriously, this is a wonderful response to Comfort's take on Origins.
All of a sudden I have a craving for bananas foster...
I like squids, too. I dressed up my friend Karl as one for Halloween two years ago. PZ, are you reading this? :)
