We are engaged in a social, political, and cultural war. There's a lot of talk in America about pluralism. But the bottom line is somebody's values will prevail. And the winner gets the right to teach our children what to believe.

I'm a stay-at-home kind of guy

Category: Personal
Posted on: May 25, 2010 10:18 AM, by PZ Myers

People are still asking me to come speak at various places, and I'm just going to have to put my foot down. Here's my calendar for the next few months:

And that's it. I'm pleased that I managed to keep this time right around now free to get some work done, and then there's a flurry of European travel in mid- to late June, and August is free so I can get prepared for teaching. But otherwise, that's it, I'm staying home. I'm discouraging everyone from sending me more invitations until the Spring term. If you really want me to visit Miami or Hawaii in February, I might be coaxed out of my hermitage, but that's it.

Don't complain, I know I'm turning into a regular J.D. Salinger here. Now go away and leave me alone.

Final exams are graded, school is out, and I'm hunkering down for some serious inactivity.

And reading books. Gotta read books.

And no travel. None.

But maybe I'll peek out the window occasionally on the off chance that PZ will go cruising by. It could happen!

I'm discouraging everyone from sending me more invitations until the Spring term.

How about E. Texas?

Seriously, how does one negotiate such a thing with you? Do you have an agent or something? If I have an estimate of cost (you should be getting a nice honorarium--if not, you are selling yourself short), I could probably use the next few years to scrape the money together. Our student atheist/humanist/free-thinker organization has been expanding like the fruiting body of Phallus impudicus...they are growing bold and sniny, and I think they need to start thinking about bringing the message to the rest of campus. A speaker of your caliber would be, like super inspirational. Plus, you'd be wined and dined...but you are used to that maybe....let me throw this out there: like barbeque?

So, PZ, when are you actually arriving in Copenhagen? It seems like there will be quite a few regulars in the city, so it could be cool with a pharyngufest before the convention (of course, given the fact that several pharyngulites are crashing at my apartment, it could be argued that there is one, no matter if PZ participates or not).

Mexico City

Great! I don't live there, but travel there often. This is as good a reason for going as there can be. I'm looking forward to share a few tequilas or beers with PZ (by the way, Mexican beer is excellent, even Europeans say so).

Who is organizing the event? This is the first thing I've heard about it, so it seems the organizers aren't doing that great a job informing those who might be interested.

I would perhaps suggest Ørsted Ølbar that sounds like a plan :-)
shall we officially declare then that Pharynguloids shall meet at 8pm at Ørsted Ølbar?

I can confirm that Ørsted Ølbar will serve both Gudeløs and OriginAle from Djævlebryg in honor of the great Pharynguloids (and lurkers and conference attendants) :D

Sincerely,
Rune Lindgreen - Bryggeriet Djævlebryg
