Random Quote

…if I were not an atheist, I would believe in a God who would choose to save people on the basis of the totality of their lives and not the pattern of their words. I think he would prefer an honest and righteous atheist to a TV preacher whose every word is God, God, God, and whose every deed is foul, foul, foul.

I have heard people rant and rave and bellow
That we're done and we might as well be dead,
But I'm only a cockeyed cephalopod
And I can't get it into my head.

BTW, is this another of the displeased denizens of the deep flipping us the bird?

Wikipedia has a brief article on this species, saying that "The Umbrella Squid, Histioteuthis bonnellii, is a species of cock-eyed squid." The genus is known as "cock-eyed" because one eye is larger than the other.

This cock-eyed squid looks like he's feeling a bit cocky indeed.

No, Fred. I think Rorschach has the right idea.

Not entirely sure what the purpose is, though. Personally, I'm too prudish to wave around my tackle like that.

Of course, my tackle is not quite that photogenic either ...

I thought the 'tackle out' appendage was something like the fishing lure that Vampiricus draculatus has. I know, we should ask PZ. He's the expert.

They do not have a penis btw..
They use a specialized arm (hectocotylus) to insert sperm under the females mantle after extracting it from their own.
PZ has some great stuff on this hidden in the archives!
