It's the anti-Symphony of Science!

After listening to Ken Ham set to music, I never want to hear another complaint about auto-tuning Carl Sagan.

Auto-tuning was MADE for Carl Sagan. It makes him sound like Kermit the Frog!

But this, um. Turn up the volume on the white noise machine, please.

Is this what we've been building up to here? Getting us to listen to Ham's nonsense by accompanying it with cheesy music?

Go with the machines as the basis of life, anti-materialists. Forget our pathetic level of detail, it's just God making machines. That's all you need to know.

Even Carl Sagan doesn't hold a candle to Antoine Dodson.

#4

Posted by: PureStealth Author Profile Page | August 2, 2010 12:27 AM

Wouldn't that be a anti-Symphony of anti-Science?

So is this what Ken Ham is submitting as his Master's thesis in Fine Arts?

Anyone know where I can download that?

#7

As a favour to everyone else: Earbleach

@Galactus35: Simply right-click the link and click "save link as…" or whatever is similar. The link is directly to an MP3.

where [can I] download that?

NO!!!1! Don't do it! That intertubes will expire with shame; Your disc drive, in an act of retaliation, will turn into a Frisbee™ with razor-sharp edges and chase you around the room; Your computer will go into a funk and only display centipede's feet wrapped in steamed peas; Many innocent electrons will die, so the Universe will become biased towards antimatter and go FOOMP!; but before that happens, the planet's methane emissions will rise catastrophically as people, small animals, plants, and rocks desperately try to eliminate it from their bodies (it sneaks in by the ear, avoids the brain, and violently attacks the body from within).

Fixed.

@Owlmirror: It is neither Science nor Symphony

Don't listen to it - you'll get hearing AIDS.

#13

Posted by: Rider1 Author Profile Page | August 2, 2010 1:46 AM

I think Ken's theme tune should be Nine Inch Nails 'Closer'.

#14

Posted by: Andyo Author Profile Page | August 2, 2010 2:25 AM

Dunno, the problem of many auto-tune Sagans is not the auto-tune itself, it's that it doesn't match the content, or sometimes they're a bit lazy.

Now, if you want an example of how autotune should be used when appreciating nature...

That ought to give people nightmares!

Take comfort in the fact that a cute little purple octopus was observed off Canada's Atlantic coast. It's a possible new species!

Dania,

I liked the part where everything was thrown out...

It reminds me that we're closer to what the founders would have wanted but was not feasible in their time.

The song itself it's an abomination, musically and content-wise. This should have never been created.

That was disturbing on so many levels.

Agreed, AustralAlien. I don't look forward to Ham-induced nightmares for the next week.

For some reason it reminds me of the music accompanying 'A Zed and Two Noughts' - that same undercurrent of madness...

This isn't autotuning (not that PZ ever said it was). Somebody composed and played music to match the pitch and rhythm of Ham's speaking voice. It sounds awful, but that may be the composer's intention. I think it sounds like mockery.

#29

Posted by: mikka Author Profile Page | August 2, 2010 9:01 AM

I agree with charley and think that it sounded quite good!

#30

Posted by: Pastor Farm Author Profile Page | August 2, 2010 9:06 AM

It's definitely mockery and I found it hilarious. There's something about the music's tone that utterly undermines everything he says.

Even Carl Sagan doesn't hold a candle to Antoine Dodson.

This too was amazing. Really well done.

I lasted a whole ten seconds before turning it off!

Is there a prize?

I liked it. But then I also like sacred harp and some gospel. My favourite song is Ali Farka toure´s "Allah Uya" which translates as "God is unique or something.

I really like this music. The franticness of it.

#34

Posted by: Nebula99 Author Profile Page | August 2, 2010 5:41 PM

The Carl Sagan ones and this just show how people can be so amazingly different. Some people are awesome, some just suck.

I listened to 5:42.

Is it being released anywhere else? It's a worry too that this bloke has the power to ruin not only science, but also the reputation of Australians, even though as he said, he's got dual nationality. But he was born here. He found a fertile ground for his delusional nonsense in the US. sad

Ghastly in so many ways.

Posted by: Rob Davidson Author Profile Page | August 3, 2010 1:50 AM

As the composer of said work, I'm pretty stunned that some people are actually missing the mockery of the music. Really, did you actually listen to the piece?

We do it live quite often (Australia, US, Canada, Indonesia even) and it always brings down the house, especially as I lip sync to the words while playing the double bass.

I do write speech melody pieces that are not mockery too - like this one of Martin Luther King, and this one of Ernest Rutherford. No auto-tune in sight.

This Ken Ham piece was composed for a New York group as a commentary on Sarah Palin's vice president attempt. As a Brisbanite, this was my connection to the US election.
