Congrats!2

For August:
Mattir - if for nothing else, then the HitchStitch.
Sastra - because she's due for her New Order of Molly (at least!).
I fear I'm forgetting someone (at least), but I have no notes and am busy and lazy so:
Walton - because I want to plough that fine piece of arse.

Nice!

Gregory Greenwood, for being so stylistically flexible. He has the manners, thoroughness, and articulation of a Victorian gentleman in one thread, then the cutting, streetwise sass of an eye-poking satirist in another.

And he can apparently quote the movie Aliens verbatim.

A well-deserved congratulations for both Aquaria and A. Ray!

For August Molly, I'm going to give my vote to the wise and wonderful

Gregory Greenwood,

who is always a pleasure to read.

Sili, don't be disgusting.
Congrats to the 2 A's, we have deserved Molly winners !

Gregory Greenwood for August, also long-deserved, the gene pool is otherwise quite shallow lately...:-)

*Yells "AY" while clapping* Congratulations to Aquaria and ARIDS.

This month my first nomination is Gregory Greenwood. Looks like I need to unbury my lists for another name.

Finally indeed! Congrats Aquaria and a_ray_in_dilbert_space!

For August... Iain Walker, if nothing else for his wonderful smackdowns of our Ica Stones' believer, Zeca_Metroid. His posts are always a pleasure to read.

And another vote for Gregory Greenwood.

Wow Sili. How about CJO? That's a darkhorse candidate for you.

#11

I've been voting for ARIDS for so long, I don't know who to vote for now!

Hm...

Mattir

and our Dumpling of Awesome, Walton.

#12

Dammit, I keep forgetting about CJO! Whatever. If others can make three nominations so can I.

CJO.

#13

I've been voting for Walton for so very very long. After all our special dumpling of awesome took his name from my random verbage, and I just think it would be wonderful if we celebrated his continued growth.

Congrats to our newest Mollies! I can't think of two people more deserving!

One person more deserving* is Gregory Greenwood, and since he's been nominated already I'm going to go with the flow and add my voice to the choir.

*Not really 'more' deserving, but the joke started writing itself and I can no more refuse the Spirit of Smartass than you can refuse to breath.

Oh, and thanks for the votes everyone.

Getting this today is more special than you guys realize.

I was bummed today, because this would have been the 60th birthday of the man I consider my father. He died of AIDS 20 years ago, and not a day goes by that I don't think of him.

He taught me everything about facing the truth and being true to yourself, even if it wasn't easy. I am an atheist today because he was an open atheist in the 70s, in East Texas.

He was the most courageous person I ever knew.

Getting the OM on his birthday makes it very special.

Thank you.

After Aquaria's acceptance speech, anything I said would sound like Sally Fields saying, "You like me. You really like me." As such, I will merely say thank you and that I am honored to share a Molly with Aquaria.

Rev. BigDumbChimp #17 wrote:

Giving the Molly to erichovind would be sneaky. He'd doubtless be so pleased he'd mention it on his website, with a self-congratulatory "see the impact I'm making on the atheists" flourish -- and that would encourage his flock to google Pharyngula and jaunt happily on over here, secure in the reassurance that there is a receptive pool of lost souls just waiting for them.

And we are. Oh yes, we'd be waiting, alright. Do come in, dears.

(Of course, this is only a sly strategy for those of us who enjoy creationist/theist debates: the regulars who find "godbots" annoying will probably be screaming for the ban hammer and reaching for the clueless stick to beat them with in the meantime.)

Word, word.

I looked at the list, and noticed that Knockgoats (=KG, methinks) doesn't have one yet. This seems like an oversight, especially given this, from the Hawking online poll thread

By "paradigm", Kuhn did not mean "something a blithering idiot pulled out of his arse".

I don't always agree with KG, but always hind her/him engaging.

Also MrFire and nigeltheBold are consistently sharp and often hilarious, which counts a lot for me.

Congratulations to both Aquaria and a_ray_in_dilbert_space on their long overdue OM's. You are both highly deserving, and I always enjoy reading your inciteful comments.

Aquaria, the man who was your father in the ways that matter did a wonderful job of raising a rational person who is a credit to our species. If he were still here, he would have every reason to be proud.

Ewan R @ 24;

Surely not, there must be another Gregory Greenwood amongst the Pharyngulite Horde, a man of wit and charm who actually knows what he is talking about and does not have a penchant for blathering inanely and an utterly inexplicable conviction that he is humerous. Someone who can make a cogent point without resorting to the tl;dr text-wall. A man who can actually spell above a third grade level...

Aquaria's acceptance speech would be Molly worthy by itself and shows she's more than qualified for this honor.

Well, since we are apparently allowed up to three picks each, I would like to officially cast a vote for David Marjanović, in part because you are, on occasion, kind enough to point out my more glaring errors, but mostly because your posts are so erudite and well researched.

This isn't for common consumption but I just have a feeling, I mean I've taken a notion, that Walton just might get a Molly this go round.

In accordance with my druthers (my personal pervue) meshing smoothly with circumstantial evidence (previous props for our Dear Worthy from many of the Horde ( including mine)) I hereby express my desire that he receives what he has earned. * Though whether this is 'second of three' or 'second of infinity' is known only to our benificient, tentacled overlords...

Jadehawk and Dania,
Never fear. I've just been
1)buried under work at the day job at the International Worldwide House of Rocket Engines (IWHORE) and
2)Taking use or lose vacation in Brazil

I just returned from the latter this week to find this nice surprise. Brazil was great. I attended the Feira International das Pedras Preciosa--an international exposition of minerals and gemstones. It's basically a big expo, where nerds who like rocks get together and enter nerdvana. I came back with about 10 kilos of rocks in my backpack and a seriously empty wallet. Ah, but it was fun! The vaguaries of internet access and incompatibility of local bootlegged software with Movable Type made it impossible to comment--though I did try to send encouragement to our benevolent tentacled overlord during his recent tour of medical facilities.

My OM noninees this month

Mattir--for yeoman's (yeowoman's?) work on the endless threads and elsewhere

Walton--for his continuing ability to grow as a human being

The entire fricking pharyngula community for showing that anarchy can work--even if it does occasionally require the excercise of a benevolent banhammer.

Feynmaniac, #74: Wouldn't that then be 'A ploughable, fine piece of OM arse.' if the vote tally went that way?

Talk about an embarrassment of riches. Or something like that.

a_ray_in_dilbert_space, OM (en fin)

At last, at last - that OM looks mighty fine on you, a_ray.

And I don't get that many votes, do I?

I thought you already had an OM?

Yes. Caine got it right, I meant "I don't get to cast that many votes". The traditional number seems to be 2 or 3, and lots more worthies have been suggested.

He's not engaging you, you pretentious twit. He's telling you to fuck off. Get lost already.

I add a vote for Dania.

In French it is, in Franglais it's two words.

Congratulations to both!!!

I'll leave it at that, because I was too sporadic in checking the lively threads this last month to have a good opinion.

Ooooh, I'm so jealous! Glad to hear you had fun.

I seriously always get way too stressed about these threads...

Anyway, on foolishly rigourous review of services rendered, I'm going with Gregory Greenwood this month, with a promise to myself Walton 'n Mattir will get some attention shortly thereafter.

(/I also strongly feel someone, somewhere with a prominent blog (hint) should post a pretty picture of the Hitch-bound quilt, when it reaches completion. As an also very fitting acknowledgement. But I guess I could probably bet that would happen anyway.)

I usually avoid voting on Mollies since I'm all too aware that lack of time means that I'm going to miss out on a lot of threads and so fail to notice many of the most impressive posts.

However, since I'm actually paying some attention at the moment, I'll add yet another vote for Gregory Greenwood.

And on the life-time achievement side of things, count me in for Walton as well, who is long overdue.

Oh, and Nerd @51: Given your well-known impatience with the philosophical fraternity (of which I must count myself a member by reason of academic background if not by profession), a nomination from you is as good as a Molly in itself. ;-)

Congratulations to Aquaria and ARIDS.

This month I also vote for Gregory Greenwood and CJO.

I also vote for Walton, not for growing up but for his ability to listen to another point of view and admit he hadn't thought about an argument completely.

A very reasonable young man with the courage to admit when he is wrong.

Congratulations to Aquaria & A-ray!

My August Molly notepad has two names on it: Gregory Greenwood for savage bites in a suave manner, and Usagichan for cracking me up with christian slaying remarks.

SandiSeattle still around? WTF, I thought the idjit realized its imaginary deity didn't exist, and went off to think about the consequences. What an idjit loser...

IIRC, s/he is the person who once referred to people on minimum wage as "sadsacks". Ugh. :-(

Another thing about Walton: Impressive comment search skills and a frightening memory of what everyone has said here... ever.

Be afraid.

Congrats to Aquaria and a_ray_in_dilbert_space!

My 3 votes:

Walton - long overdue!
Walton - he deserves it!!
Walton - he needs some recompense for coming from Milton Keynes!!!

Congrats to Aquaria and a_ray_in_dilbert_space!

For this month, alas, I don't know half of the commenters here half as well as I'd like to vote insightfully, so I'll just give an om-nom-nom-nomination to Gregory Greenwood, if only for the delightful word "inciteful".

Because it's one of the joys of a good Pharyngula thread: it incites - to comment, argue, laugh, wonder and above all interact!

Congratulations, Aquaria and a_ray! Richly deserved, and overdue for both of you.

Gregory Greenwood certainly needs to be on the short list, as do many others.

Someone jumped out at the last minute to my eye: nigeltheBold, Captain of Smug. For the following comment alone, he gets my nomination. There is no finer or funnier description of contemporary American Protestant Christianity:

Well, if you were to take a bunch of atheists, put them in ill-fitting, out-of-style suits, grease their hair back, force them to kneel between rows of intensely uncomfortable benches as if they were waiting for the executioner to come up behind them and put a bullet through the back of their skulls, sing out-of-key songs that make little or no sense while accompanied by a wheezing Hammond organ played by the least-talented organist in the bunch, and then announced lunch would be fried bologna sandwiches with Miracle Whip and American cheese slices, they would look just like a typical American Christian Sunday service.

Are the Mollys (Mollies?) for a monthly performance or are they more a "lifetime achievement" thing?
Can a person get more than one OM?
Is there really such a thing as a "tentacle cluster"?
Am I really allowed to vote for only 3 people?
Am I taking this way too seriously?

My votes:
nigelTheBold
Gregory Greenwood
Mattir

Way late getting to this, but extra-heaping "Congrats!" to Aquaria and ARIDS!

For August, I vote for laughs:
Gregory Greenwood (always fun to read, just see above),
Hypatia's Daughter (looking into the 'dark' mirror of history), and
blf (doing a double take).
