davidog.pngDave Bacon is a theoretical ski bum who is also a pseudo professor. His research is on quantum computing, his scientific passions extend to everything in physics, mathematics, computer science and beyond, and his personal pleasures include making wine, playing poker, skiing, camping, and daydreaming (although not all of those at the same time.) Nothing he says on this blog should be construed as having anything to do with his employer or his dog.

Away From the Red Eyes of the Crowd

Category: Self: Meet Center. Center: Meet Self.

Red Eye:

  • A drink made from beer and tomato juice, drunk by Canadians
  • A kind of cicada.
  • Tomato ketchup. Or is it catsup?
  • A European fish, the rudd, Leuciscus erythrophthalmus. I was once a rudd, of a different kind.
  • What Dave will be doing tonight to get to the East coast. BINGO! From the OED:
White House Diary 31 Mar. (1970) 642 Lynda was coming in on 'the red-eye special' from California, about 7 A.M., having kissed Chuck good-by at Camp Pendleton last night as he departed for Vietnam
Bonus points if you can guess who Lynda is. Double bonus if you can explain where the title of this post comes from.

No guessing. Lynda is Lynda Bird Johnson Robb, the eldest of LBJ's daughters. And Chuck is Charles Robb, Lynda's husband.

P.S. By the way, that 'rudd of a different kind' sure looks exciting from that linked page you left. ...:minism:...

I was a Rudd also. Moreso, I did software consulting for Peter Ruddock, brother of Albert Ruddock.

Bacon is apparently one of the core topics on the internet

Once you discount spam (which we all try to ignore), 98% of the internet is composed of cats, pornography, MySpace, and bacon. Bacon
