Speaking of Charity: Help DonorsChoose

Category: DonorsChoose Fundraiser
Posted on: July 11, 2007 7:54 AM, by Chad Orzel

You may or may not remember that we did a ScienceBlogs fundraiser last year for a group called "DonorsChoose" that provides small grants to teachers in poor school districts around the country. We'll probably do another in September this year (discussions are under way), but right now, they're involved in the Members Project run by American Express, with a chance to win up to $5,000,000 from Amex. From the mailing they sent me:

DonorsChoose has just been selected as a quarter-finalist in the American Express Members Project. The prize is up to $5 million, and if we win, we'll dedicate all the proceeds to classroom projects on our web site. You could impact hundreds of thousands of public school students by voting for our submission:

"Teachers Ask. You Choose. Students Learn."

[...] We're up against some stiff competition, so please vote now to get us into the semi finals. DonorsChoose is in the Top 50, and we need your vote to make it into the next round.

I don't have an Amex card, so I can't vote, but I'm sure some of my readers do, so if you do, consider taking a minute or two to vote for DonorsChoose. They're doing good work, and deserve support.

Thanks, Chad!

We really appreciate your help and support.

If you want any help with instructions on how to vote, please check out our step-by-step guide (the voting process takes just a couple minutes and your vote could make a HUGE difference) at: http://www.donorschoose.org/html/AMEX_voting_guide.pdf. These instructions are also accessible from our homepage.

Also, if you vote, we'd love if you could e-mail us with the word "yes" to feedback-email@donorschoose.org so that we can thank you. That way, we'll only email you again if we make it into the next round.....and one step closer to the finals.

On behalf of the schoolchildren whom your vote could impact, thank you for voting now!

(And if you don't have an Am Ex card, please forward to friends who might. Thank you so much.)

Sincerely,

Brita Lombardi and the DonorsChoose.org Team

I received an email from DonorsChoose (or maybe Amex). I immediately registered and voted for DonorsChoose. I passed the request on to another friend who has an Amex.
