I've always enjoyed Clark Kellog's commentary; he used to do Pacers games, back when it was fun to watch a Pacers game. He'll be a welcome change from Packer.

As I said in the note, as much as Packer's relenetless negativity grates, I almost find Jim Nantz worse, particularly in the final game. Nantz obviously wants to be the guy in one of those famous calls like Al Michaels's "Do you believe in miracles?" or the guy who did "The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant!" and that leads him to try to imbue every moment of every game with huge significance, which gets really wearing. He wants to be calling a Game for the Ages, and even if the game he's actually calling isn't one of those, he's going to try to make it sound that way.

Good riddance to bad rubbish - Billy Packer was the G W Bush of Sports Television.

However, in one sense it is unfortunate, because the Network could have made millions by sponsoring a "Slap Billy Packer Day". I picture lines a mile long, with people very interested in re-creating one of my favorite Airplane scenes.

And now, my dream comes to a crashing halt. I will be reduced to waiting for a miracle to happen... like running into Packer at a mall, at a rest stop, at a gas station.... where I am able to deliver a sharp, concise, crashing right-cross review of how it felt, all these years, forced to listen to a Billy Packer.

RIP Billy Packer, RIP.
