The second complete draft was sent off to my editor yesterday, and after a little bit of excitement regarding files that wouldn’t open, it was successfully delivered. There were only minor changes since the last update, mostly having to do with the figures and section headers and so on.

I’ll put the table of contents below the fold, but meanwhile, here’s a silly picture of me talking to the dog about quantum physics:

Current word count is 68,449 according to Word, or 64,215 without the footnotes (I put a bunch of humorous asides and historical anecdotes into footnotes. I tried very hard to restrain my inner David Foster Wallace.). This is, um, a lot more than 40,000, but I think the explanations are clearer for it.

Oh yeah, and what’s next after BMoC, btw? A book of Quantum Physics bedtime stories for kids? Totally serious suggestion, btw.

Hmmm.. Your dog looks uncertain about that!

    har har.. Sorry, I couldn’t help it…

Congrats on completing the manuscript! And don’t worry about the bloated word count. It takes a lot of extra words to make explanations clear for non-scientist readers, and ultimately, clarity is what matters. Can’t wait to read the final product….

FutureBaby is apparently a perfectionist and has yet to complete last-minute revisions.

(We think FutureBaby is trying to come up with a Theory of Everything. Fortunately, FutureBaby’s universe is really really small at the moment, so we have hopes that it won’t take too much longer.)
