This year's DonorsChoose challenge is doing pretty well, with the total standing at a bit over $2,200. Thanks to all who have donated thus far.
There's a new development in this year's challenge, which is that Hewlett-Packard is going to donate $200,000 to DonorsChoose, which will be divided among Social Media Challenge blogs in proportion to each blog's share of the total Challnge proceeds.
Currently, the Social Media Challenge as a whole has raised $250,000. Which means that the Uncertain Principles challenge is in line to get just under 1% of HP's donation, or not quite $2,000. That's pretty good, but being a greedy bastard, I'd like to do better.
The HP contribution will be allocated this Sunday, so there are three days left to try to maximize the amount of HP-cash claimed. So, I'm making a new push for donations, and in keeping with last week's poll results, I'll offer the following incentive:
If the Uncertain Principles share of the HP contribution is greater than 1% of the total, I will recreate the famous Bohr-Einstein debates about quantum measurement, in puppet show form, and post video of it on the blog.
The goal here is not a fixed dollar amount-- it's a share of the total Social Media Challenge proceeds, which adds a new element of gamesmanship to the challenge. But this should be well within the capabilities of my highly educated readership.
So, there's a lot to be gained by donating: you can get a question answered in the blog (for a donation of $25 or more), you can get a chance to win an advance copy of How to Teach Physics to Your Dog (for any size donation; the largest individual donation will automatically receive a copy), and if you (collectively) donate enough by Sunday, you can make me play with puppets. And, of course, you get the satisfaction of knowing that you have helped needy school children.
