Tentacle-Love Tattoos!!!

I just had to post this for PZ. This is a tattoo my friend Jenni has on her foot, and I love it! I know all those out there with a tentacle fetish will appreciate this.

You don't "enter into a tattoo lightly" and hope it will still be a "part of your life" when you are older? It's a freakin picture on your foot! Trying to tack on some "profound" meaning to it, such as the rhythm and evolution of jellies and frogs is actually MORE shallow than just liking it because it looks cool, lol. I have a tattoo (actually three) because I like them, period. I have no need to cry out "hey look at me, this is what I'm all about". THAT is shallow and immature, regardless how deep and/or intellectual you may think yourself to be, sorry.

I have pictures of me when I was your age. You would laugh at the funny hair and clothing. Well, I'm not wearing my hair and clothing that way anymore. But when your friend Jenni is my age, she will still have that tattoo.

My mother got a number of tattoos when she was in her early 20s.

30+ years later, she still loves all of them.

*waiting for obligatory hentai comment*

Yeah, I think that's a tattoo that will age well. Jellyfish are universal and timeless, unlike paeans to hair metal bands or Hanna Barbera cartoon characters.

But when your friend Jenni is my age, she will still have that tattoo.

And my wife is tattooed too
With a rooti-toot-toot to you.

Screw the tattoos, I'm more interested in this "hair cell regeneration in the cochlea through viral-mediated gene therapy" stuff, being a deafened, Menieresy-type person.

Despite what lots of people think, tattoos do not automatically lead to regret. And yes, a jellyfish is a good candidate to wear well.

I've actually been thinking that a dquid tat would be neat. No joke. I know people with tweetie bird tattoos and band names, but I concur with the "timeless" element. Tribal designs, abstract art, symbols, and flora/fauna definitely fall into that category.

The thought of a personal "jellyfish" totem rather than a boar or snake is pretty cool.

As the person bearing the tattoo in question, I thought I would make a few comments. First, I didn't have any thoughts of fetishes or anything sexually related when I got this tattoo. Really I didn't. The idea was based on a few things I had recently learned about the jellies, including the idea that they were one of the first "movers", meaning that life forms prior were attached to the ocean floor, and jellies actually got around and swam in their ocean home. Intrinsic to that idea is the basic rhythm of their motion, another concept I really dig. I also have a frog tattoo as a quasi-symbol of the transition from water-based to land-based living. So yes, to answer the unasked question, I believe in evolution.

As for the timeless concept, well, I never enter into a tattoo lightly, and would hope that others would find some meaning behind what they are putting on their bodies permanently. And should I live to be somnilista's age, however old that is, I certainly hope that tattoo will still be a part of my life, along with other, much more important, elements.

Thanks for sharing my picture Shelley, and thanks for letting me rant a little bit!

But when your friend Jenni is my age, she will still have that tattoo.

Perhaps it will help her avoid ossification.
