me%20and%20pep.jpg Shelley Batts is a Neuroscience PhD candidate at the University of Michigan. She studies hair cell regeneration in the cochlea, and is just embarking on that quixotic quest called 'thesis.' She lies awake at night pondering how science intersects with politics, culture, policy, money, medicine, and religion in an attempt to be more than just a niche scientist sitting in the oh-so-lovely ivory tower. Follow me and my parrot on the quest to get funded, get a PhD, and stay sane.

These are a few of my friends in the UM Neuroscience Program. We went out to dinner at Dante's Down the Hatch, which was a fondue place in a PIRATE SHIP!
Left to right: Ben Johnson, Edny Gula, Me, Lisa Briand, Darren Opland. And the beautiful Jen Chikar was taking the picture!

Another dinner: Me, Edny, and Jen

My monitor is terrible here at my desk...is that Pilsner Urquell and Red Bull in the fridge?! What a science weekend!

Skippy? Choosy mothers choose Jif.

It was a science weekend indeed; we all performed many in vivo experiments involving livers and ethanol. Hey, how else to unwind after a long day of neuro-conferencing?

And yes, Pilsner Urquell, PBR, Jack Daniels, 2 flavors of Stoli, Bacardi Gold, Amstel Light, Red Bull, wine coolers, etc etc.......

Naughty girl. It is illegal to have Pilsner Urquell in the same fridge as Pabst.
