I'm not going to put up a mommy monday post today because I am afraid I will say something I'd later regret. Instead, if I get a chance to blog later today or tomorrow or ..., I'll stick to the literature and continue to bring you myths, damnation, and then solutions from Lifting a Ton of Feathers. I'm a bit behind schedule, but I'm going to finish the exercise, so that I have the posts for my own future reference, if nothing else.
Hope y'all have a good week and that my students rock their exam today. (Writing multiple choice questions is slow work and explains the dearth of Feathers posting lately).

Science Woman, why do you waste your time reading whatever this stuffwhitepeoplelike.wordpress.com site is saying? You're right. Speaking of stereotypes. Maybe I am missing the point, but what's wrong with being socially informed?! I am not white, btw. I regret clicking on the link and spend a sec on the post. What a waste of time.

Doc: Your point is well taken. I *don't* waste my time on sites like that. The links to it (and even the awareness of it) came out of last week's conversations about race and science and blogging.

Yes but why is it supposed to be funny, DM? Is it sarcastic? Satire? Social commentary that we presume funniness because we're all hip enough to read blogs? Class commentary that white people have the money for a Prius, or listen to publicly-funded news? In implied contrast with what?
I'm with doc-in-training, I don't see the point. Still.

I think that site is pretty funny. It nails the people I went to college with, for example. I think it satarizes yuppies in their 20s-early 30s who are somewhat insincere about what they like or claim to care about. That is, they like things in order to impress their friends. I think that's where the funny comes from.
