I saw this over at Addy's and absolutely should not have spent the time on it. But I did. And here you go.
Step 1: Put your MP3 player or whatever on random.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 25 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Strike through when someone gets them right I'm doing italics
Step 5: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING.
Some of these are not very hard - particularly for the song title - though the artist to which I'm listening might require a bit more guessing. A few of these will be impossible. I'll try to check back at least once a day through the weekend and let you know how it's going.

Betraying my children's chorus background:
#14 Cole Porter. This song was used in one version of "Anything Goes," but its been used a lot of places and sung by a bunch of people. I believe the title is "All though the night".
#17 This is a traditional "riddle" song. "I gave my love a cherry that had no stone, I gave my love a chicken that had no bone, I gave my love a baby with no cryin', I gave my love a life with no dyin'. How can there be a cherry with no stone?, how can there be a chicken with no bone, how can there be a baby with no cryin', and how can there be a life with no dyin'?" Unfortunately that as far as my memory goes.
#19 The title on this is a gimme. O come, O come Emmanual...I believe its based on a Georgian chant.

1. check.
8. check.
11. check
14. check.
17. check. I won't make anyone try to guess that I have the "wee sing" version on my iPod.
19 - I think you meant 25. Yes, that's the title. But what chanteuse is singing it into my earbuds? (And why is it still on an active playlist in late April?)
Posted by: ScienceWoman | April 25, 2008 3:24 PM
Thanks for the correction. I don't know why I saw 25 and wrote 19. As for what version you have I have no clue. I've got at least two versions on my playlist because I haven't bothered to separate the "Classical" from "Christmas Music", but I'm pretty sure you don't have either unless you're into obscure children's choirs or a rabid Virgil Fox fan. :-)

Is the artist for O Come O Come Emmanuel Carter's Chord (it was a free download on itunes last year)? I recognize a few but can't place them :)
