Today our new president, France Cordova, was officially inaugurated. I got to carry the banner for the College of Engineering - how cool is that? And I didn't even fall over.
Thanks to the police officer who took this photo, as we waited to go in the hall. More photos of the inauguration are here.
Now heading back to Illinois for the weekend. If I can finish getting myself packed, that is, and maybe beat back the regular let-down headache. But it's a beautiful day here, and will be a lovely drive.

Hey, you look very happy! ... and those colors suit you very much.

Why are you wearing one of those mortarboard hats, and not the puffy kind? I don't know about you, but the whole reason I got a PhD was so I could wear the fucking puffy hat.

Wow! Very cool. How did you get picked?

Fantastic smile.
LOL at the puffy hat comment.

Great pic.

I know, I was all bummed about the mortarboard too. I mean, I didn't even get a hood - what's the point in having a PhD if you don't get to wear a hood? Although I went to the wrong school for a puffy hat... what can I say? Should have been one of my grad school criteria.
I was selected because my department head nominated me, and he was asked because our department is the newest in the college, and has had a pretty good year, I guess. Although I'm not too sure about the procedure. It might have just been because I was around the office late at night, ergo available for the asking...
