Redbud blossoms seem so odd to me - coming straight out of the branch or the tree. But they make for a beautiful effect...

I know what you mean! They seem sort of impossible! Like flowers on witch hazel in winter. I really love redbud trees. Thanks for the photo.

The production of flowers from "old wood" is called "cauliflory", and it is much more common in the tropics than in the temperate zone. So the "oddness" is a temperate zone bias.

Wow, cool! I didn't know that. Thanks, DrA! Is "cauliflower" related somehow?

A little crust of redbuds of flowers on old tree trunk tickles our wonders for its unexpected difference and thus its endearment, while we greet with simple 'owes' the magnificent presentations of forsythias, cherry and magnolia trees covered by blossoms on entire trees, heralding the new Spring. You found a rare, unusual one, recorded it in picture, and sharing it here with us is beautiful. Also, it made me to learn the word "cauliflory" as DrA posted. Thanks, Alice!
