Five things meme

Category: SciWo says...blogging
Posted on: November 17, 2008 12:36 PM, by SciWo

swblocks.jpg Isis tagged me for the five things meme that's making the rounds (again, actually, I know I've done this one at least once before.) But this time I borrowed Abel's idea and added a cool graphic that I got from takoma-bibelot on flickr.

5 things I was doing 10 years ago.

  1. working towards my undergraduate degree

  2. trying to decide whether to be a scientist, doctor, or lawyer

  3. using ICQ to chat with my now-husband

  4. living in my first apartment with a good friend and a third

  5. falling in love with the Princess Pup

5 things on my to do list today

  1. work on paper revisions

  2. write tomorrow's lecture

  3. write tomorrow's lab handout

  4. deal with some of the email that accumulated last week when I was being productive

  5. hug and cuddle my little girl who is getting bigger every day

5 snacks I love

  1. ice cream

  2. hot chocolate

  3. ice cream

  4. really good chocolate

  5. ice cream

(which makes it all the more remarkable that I have not had any icecream since before Halloween. I am the model of productivity and self-restrain this month.)

5 things I would do if I were a millionaire

  1. negotiate a part-time faculty position, even if it meant losing the possibility of tenure or required a move

  2. give generously to women's shelters and land trusts

  3. set aside a substantial amount for Minnow's future

  4. buy a smaller, greener house

  5. worry less about family finances

5 places I've lived

  1. in a tent north of the Arctic circle

  2. in a mansion overlooking the ocean

  3. in a field station surrounded by tall trees and mountains

  4. in a ghetto ground-floor apartment with broken windows in a high crime neighborhood

  5. at the intersection of two four lane streets, with neighbors of 2 24-hour convenience stores, a frat house, and a hospital emergency room

5 jobs I've had

  1. mother

  2. wife

  3. sister

  4. daughter

  5. friend

5 people I'd like to inflict share this meme with
Ecogeofemme at The Happy Scientist, Rebecca at Adventures in Applied Math, Academic at Journeys of an Academic, Amanda at A Lady Scientist, and Candid Engineer at Candid Engineer in Academia. I look forward to learning random things about each of you. And anyone else who insanely insists wants to play along, consider yourself tagged as well.

I love your answers! I really think this has been one of the more fun memes to watch pop up.
I remember ICQ- oh my. That brings back... a very different me.
I am really jealous of three of the five places you've lived. I think I'd even have put up with the other two if I got to have those three.

mmmmm Ice cream.

Home-made ice-cream, mmmm. Every year I make home-made ice-cream for my party, and generally the white-chocolate one goes first, closely followed by lemon and/or strawberry.
I have to say, the mango ice cream didn't come out as well as I expected. Won't be making that one again.

What can I say - I'm not a mathematician but I love numbers even going back to the old blog (or back to 2.5 yrs old judging from some artifacts in my baby book).

Would love to hear more about your camping north of the Arctic Circle.

Oh, and I was surprised that you didn't mention your love of ice cream :-)

I am a literary agent scouting on behalf of a major publisher for an expert to write an introductory book on memes: how they work, how they spread, controversies about them, the history of memes, etc. I was wondering if you might know someone, perhaps a graduate student, interested in the project. I would love to tell them more.

thanks for any help...
