Hallo from Amsterdam!

alice.jpgI'm in Amsterdam, we're having a great time, I'm totally jet lagged, and I have decided I love Dutch coffee. Thanks for the advice on things to do - my best decision so far was not biking. Here are some photos; I'll try to update them when we next get some cheaper internet time (20 euros in the hotel! Yeeps!) Tomorrow we leave for Delft and the work begins...

"Hallo" back from a Dutchie! Love the pics - they almost make me homesick... Cheese, coffee, stroopwafels, mmmmm, so delicious! Enjoy your conference!

Are you high as a fucking kite yet!?!? I spent two weeks in Amsterdam when I was in college, and I don't remember a single fucking thing! IT KICKED TOTAL ASS!

Not biking? But biking is the best thing about Amsterdam!

I humbly beg your most gracious forgiveness -- how the PhysioProf did I forget to mention the coffee? Heavy, smooooooth, chewy, aromatic -- lovely stuff.

On the other hand, skip the "coffee houses." Unless you want to do a PhysioProf and not remember the trip.

Glad you didn't bike ;)
Have fun at your conference!
(and gaah, of course, the coffee ...)

Your pictures are beautiful. I am also getting homesick now :(

AFAIK that should be European coffee.
Biking in Amsterdam is an art sometimes so to not rent a bike might have been a good idea (besides it seems that walking around allowed for a lot more scenery to be seen).
Don't get high as a kite. It's a waste of money. If you do want to try the stuff get one of the lower THC content brands so you get mellow (which is the goal, not getting so high that you should get altitude sickness).
For the connection try looking for an internet cafe (or even the conference itself).

TU Delft has excellent internet (wireless and wired) ;) Also, you can try biking in Delft, since a lot of the students will have gone home by then.
I wish I could attend the conference too... will you try to liveblog it?

I tried nothing stronger than caffeine. :-) FAW, I have thought about it, but I really have no idea what they are expecting from us. If I get a chance, I absolutely will.

Now I'm in Delft, and the wireless is 1 euro a day rather than 20. Much more my speed!

The Anne Frank house made me totally lose it. Seeing her actual diary there, wow, heavy.

Your pictures brought back great memories. In grad school I was able to go to a conference in Amsterdam for a week. It was such an amazing city. I too LOVED the coffee. We did go biking -- on a tour out in the country. Saw great dairy farms, some seaside, and the famous dikes (and a working windmill).
