Reader comment of the week:

In Swallowing nutrition myths hook, line, and sinker, PalMD of denialism blog takes a New York Times article to task for its unfounded claims. The article lists 11 'super foods' which are claimed to have health benefits such as lowering cholesterol, controlling blood sugar, and fighting cancer among other things, but PalMD points out the notable lack of evidence to back up these claims, calling the article "pure food-woo."

Reader Dunc, however, thinks there are worse things to worry about than food-woo:

Look on the bright side - with the way food prices are going, nutritionism is luxury few will be able to afford for long... I predict that the next food fad will largely revolve around how to make appetizing meals from left-overs and those cuts of meat that nobody likes to think about.

Some other Medicine & Health posts we thought were cool this week were:

Is Sudden Infant Death Syndrome caused by a serotonin imbalance?

Tofu causes dementia

Fundamentalism is bad for your health?

Should parents worry about HPV vaccine?

New tool anyone can use to track disease outbreaks
