SBselfborder.jpg Signout is hospital slang for the transfer of information between patient care teams. It is also the name of this blog, which represents one of the less dysfunctional ways in which Dr. Signout copes with her participation in a U.S. medical residency program.

The other side of the story

Category: Miscellany
Posted on: January 10, 2008 2:28 PM, by Signout

You guys remember that DonorsChoose campaign in which Signout participated last October? Well. A project called "The Pencil Monster" was funded exclusively through donations obtained via this very blog. And because it was a great project, it got televised.

Behold, the 20/20 clip! (At this linked website, click on the video on the right to view it.)

You may ask how Signout knows about this media gem. After all, Signout may not seem like someone who spends a lot of time browsing the 20/20 website. The fact is, I was contacted months ago about the possibility of participating in the segment. (The producers later reconsidered, noting I had an eye made for radio.)

Although I am sad that the producers missed a chance to tell the other side of the story--that of the connection between this humble blog, its attractive and charming readers, and those pencil sharpeners--I find it incredibly gratifying to "meet" the teachers and students who directly benefited from Signout's and ScienceBlogs' involvement in publicizing DonorsChoose.

I think you will, too. Give yourselves a big pat on the back.

signout, what pray tell does "an eye for radio" mean?

Posted by: slander | January 10, 2008 4:12 PM

Haven't you ever heard of "a face made for radio?" It means you're ugly (cf. "a face made for the movies"). But these producers, they have not seen my face--only my eye. Hence, "an eye made for radio."

It is a very sophisticated brand of humor, the kind I use on this blog.

P.S. No, Dr. Free-Ride, huzzah to you for bringing DonorsChoose to our attention!

This is great! Give yourself a big pat on the back, and keep up the great work!
