SBselfborder.jpg Signout is hospital slang for the transfer of information between patient care teams. It is also the name of this blog, which represents one of the less dysfunctional ways in which Dr. Signout copes with her participation in a U.S. medical residency program.

Navel-gazing:

Upside down

Most of my memories of Charles are upside down. When I was a kid, that's how he carried me around--on his back, giggling; under his arm, waving at his knees; or thrown over his shoulder, poking at his armpit. I...

Something like purpose

It's been two months since I started feeling empty at work.

The rest of it

As I struggle to wrap my head around everything that's happening with every patient on my team, demonstrating what I actually do is much harder than it used to be.

Onward

This morning, as I wrote "R1" next to my name on my last progress note for the last time, I could swear I heard a cheer swell behind my eardrums.
