So here we have pi squared, which an engineer would call "10." -Frank King It's Pi Day today in the United States: March 14th, or as we write it, 3/14. (Don't know how you do it in Europe, where there is no 31st of April.) So, let's start things off with a song for the day: Cab Calloway's "Everybody Eats When They Come To My House."
Of course, pi is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, and trying to measure it as accurately as possible has been a challenge that humans have taken on for thousands of years.
(Even Google gets in on the Pi Day action.) Most people know Archimedes' 22/7 as a good approximation (it will get you 3.14); my favorite is 355/113, which gets you the first seven digits, and is the best fractional approximation of pi with a denominator under 10,000!
Over here at scienceblogs, there is a Pie contest for Pi Day!
Unfortunately for us all, despite the fact that I love to cook, pie crusts from scratch are out of my league as a baker. So, at my house today -- this Pi Day -- we're having an alternative celebration to pie.
To all my old college roommates who might still be reading this, the answer is yes. I'm still baking cookies, and they're still delicious. And I hope your Pi day is filled with delicious circles, too!

I completely unconnectedly baked a plum pie Thursday night (it wasn't very good).
What one earth do you use for crusts? My dictionary tells me "shortcrust pastry" is the translation for what I make, and that's as easy as, well, pie.
I can't make them as elaborately pretty as that picture, though. No artistic talent.

Sili, if you can get Pillsbury frozen pie crust I'd just do that. My mother is very good at making them but she does buys those instead because they taste about the same and require no effort other than unfolding them correctly. My husband does something with water, flour, shortening, and a tool to blend it all together (http://www.kitchenkrafts.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_BE1918) but that seems to take forever.

A dough blender?!
A knife to cut up the margarine to start with, and then use your fingers for the rest. I imagine it's just as messy to clean that thing as just do it by hand in the first place.
And, yes, it's just flour, 'fat', sugar for sweet pies, perhaps an egg or just the yolk, and very little fluid - just enough to bind things. Seriously, I'm a bad cook, but even I can do it.

It’s Pi Day again; the annual celebration of the ratio of any circle’s circumference to its diameter in Euclidean space. Which in the real world equates to a day spent walking in circles around shrines dedicated to Pi, while eating pie. Naturally.

If it isn't a popular option, great-then you don't have to worry about many people taking advantage of the discount while allowing the few who did to get the break.

The RainyDayGarage guys braved the storm and drove from Boston to NYC on Tuesday for the NYIAS today. Our main purpose of the trip was to get a live look at the new Porsche offerings. We secretly hoped that there would be a Boxster Spyder or a 918 at the show. The trip down was uneventful except for the one section of I95 in Rhode Island that was flooded because of the heavy rain. The Boxster forded the small lake which formed at the underpass and came out of it with no noticeable damage.

much anticipated by psychic circles as an age in which mankind will experience a great spiritual awakening. The Aquarian philosophical and spiritual bent may be dangerous in that it can drive the subjects into an ivory-tower existence where they meditate on abstractions that bear little relevance to life. On the other hand it can help the many who have scientific leanings to combine these with the Aquarian yearning for the universal recognition of the brotherhood of man

Among the faults to which they are liable are fanatical eccentricity, wayward egotism, excessive detachment and an inclination to retreat from life and society, and a tendency to be extremely dogmatic in their opinions. Aquarians can be a threat to all they survey or a great boon for humanity in general. Circumstances - for example, continuous opposition to a cause they hold dear - may cause the atrophy of the openness of mind that is one of the Aquarian's most attractive traits.

Why? Because one of the greatest gifts you can give to someone you care about is helping them feel that they're not in this adventure alone. Don't just tell them how you feel about them, do something -- even if it's something small and inexpensive -- to show them that you value and appreciate them.

If the voters want representatives who’d rather no change to small change, then that’s what they should get. Remember, what we’re talking about here is yes/no votes: presumably each of these three parties can choose between the two other proposals as to which one they prefer. They can’t avoid it, because voting yes in your scenario helps one side, and voting no helps the other. They have to make a choice. There’s no “neutral” vote – because new legislation is always a change to the status quo. A “no” vote is a vote for the status quo compared with the new proposal – and their voters can judge them on what they think of that choice next election.

Today, March 14 (when this was posted), is Pi Day. March 14th’s date is often written as 3-14, which contains the first three digits of π, so it is chosen as Pi Day. Coincidentally, but rather symbolically appropriate, it is also Albert Einstein’s birthday, and few other dates could be more appropriate in my opinion.

Since you are Army Strong, I may not be able to answer the question you want. I can give the answers for the Marine Corps and the Army should reflect it although the Army lost 300 men at Ia Drang, the deadliest battle of the war, and the air crews may not have suffered as badly there. That number is so low it probably wouldn't affect the overall numbers. Another reason might be that the Marines depend heavily upon air support and helicopter gunships were the main air support in Vietnam.

It isn't until January of 2007 that there was a renewal. But by whom?

My husband does something with water, flour, shortening, and a tool to blend it all together

There are a lot of guys under him that are striving for his position, and I hope he comes to the place where he recovers his passion for the railroad, and be thankful he has a wife & family able to tolerate the 'railroad man' life.

While the US takes DUI seriously one single DUI which is later dismissed as result of diversion is unlikely to result in adverse action against you. If this is the only misdemeanor offense EVER on your record it is automatically forgiven under "petty offense exception." It must be a misdemeanor.

The 3rd round stoppage in the Lawler vs. Smith fight was literally preposterous, to say the very least. Scott was willing and ready to complete the rest of the round/fight. He was no more in harms way than was Thompson initially climbing into the ring with a blood-filled sack attached to his skull. And that stoppage was a joke as well… but, a little more acceptable than the Lawler/Smith intervention. Kimbo was gonna knock him out, regardless.

I have heard that the Van Winkle that is 21 or 23 years old (I forget which it is) is still Stitzel Weller. At near $200 a bottle from our state stores, I keep debating whether to get it or not. I bought a modern day bottle of Cabin Still off the shelf the other day. I guess it's a Heaven Hill product now. For $8.50 for a liter, it wasn't too bad. I can only imagine how awesome it used to be!

So much of the world is warm when your home town is cold it is hard to pin it down to one particular tour company. Some places, such as Australia work well for independent travellers, and countries like Thailand and Vietnam have networks of buses going between tourist destinations making independent travel ideal. You can easily mix it with various short adventure trips.

Sometimes creating a diversion FROM the work helps us to refocus on our blessings and helps us tolerate what we do a little better. Ask him if he wants to do something on the off time, like go to the lake and burn some wood & eat hotdogs by the fire.
Go to a small town trip and eat lunch in a hometown restaurant, and enjoy the diversion.

And frankly, THAT is the charge that will be most likely to cause you serious problems as you apply for positions in the future.

Your GPA matters when you apply for jobs closely related to your major (employers know the higher your GPA, the more you learned about the subject) or to graduate or professional school. That's a low GPA for a grad/professional school, and it won't matter that it's from a great school in that case.
