Weekend Diversion: How did I miss Mr. T doing this?

"I'm going to fight if you touch me or hurt me or do harm to my family. But if you call me a bad name, or whatnot, I'm too smart for that. That's the message the kids need to hear coming from me. I tell them, 'If I fought every time somebody called me a name, I would never get out of jail. But I'm disciplined. I'm smarter than that.' So I tell them, like my mother said, 'Consider the source.' When you see who called you the name, then you understand why they're doing it. Then you don't have to stoop that low." -Mr. T

Ahh, Mr. T. Perhaps my favorite of the muscular, brash, but positive role models from my childhood.

Not only do I remember him on TV from the A-Team (as well as cameos in Diff'rent Strokes and Silver Spoons), but from movies, saturday morning cartoons, and public service announcements. ("Take it from me, Mr. T!")

And yet somehow, I entirely missed his recent Snickers Ad Campaign. I just now came across these commercials on the web, and... well, wow is all I can say.

I don't know what's wrong with the world today, but I am sure that we need more of this!

(And you have to love the homage to the old A-Team series, with the accompanying wanton destruction of property.)

Mars, Inc., I await your call for an endorsement deal!

In the meantime, allow me to express my undying admiration for Mr. T, and I hope you found these videos as amusing as I did!

How did you miss Mr T doing whatever

Your sense of Good Taste wasn't AWoL?

Just to be clear: I've nothing against Mr T's character per se, who I also recognise to be a positive role model. I just am not fond of that character or the movies / shows featuring the characterâ¦

Ah, mr. T. The thing is, the man seems to be the personification of the role he took in the A-team series. I doubt he really needed to act his way through the series.

I saw those commercials some time ago and what amazed me the most is that the years hardly seem to have got hold of him. Doesn't seem to have changed much.

Anyway, here is a special one you haven't mentioned yet, Ethan: mr. T's musical career. Warning: no gratuitous violence or demolition, but lots of 80s overload.

I missed these commercials also. The minute I see Mr. T's face I think......PITY THE FOOL. HA.

"(And you have to love the homage to the old A-Team series, with the accompanying wanton destruction of property.) "

If that was an homage to the A-Team, then Mr. T wouldn't be flying.

"I ain't getting on no plane, Hannibal!"

Don't forget that he's a cancer survivor - about 12 years now. t-cell lymphona.

You missed them because they were shown on British television :)

These ads are great, and it's cool that Mr. T is a really nice role model for kids that might be somehow struggling in their peer groups or whatever.

But there's this one sad bit in the Wiki entry about him:

'Personal life

Mr. T is a born-again Christian.'

God, why..:/ ?

I have a "Happy Birthday" autographed poster signed by Mr. T himself hanging on my wall. It's one of my most prized possessions.

Awesome! Thanks for those clips!
