I've been using Google Reader recently, following the lamented death of Planet Fleck, and I suppose I have to admit its better. Here are some "shared items" if, for some reason, you want to read what I read.

6000th comment!

Category: fun
Posted on: September 23, 2008 6:24 PM, by William M. Connolley

I was going to have a 6,000th comment contest to line up with Seeds 1,000,000th comment contest. But the number bumped up while I wasn't watching. Oops.

So I retrospectively declare the winner to have been Dave Rado for this. Though I'm not sure about the counting, so Eli wins second prize for this.

When I say "prize"... I'm not sure there are any actual prizes... Eli can have a refund of iced carrots perhaps. Dave can have... a photo:

Not quite the 6000th photo I took with my old Nikon, but close. This was 6k exactly. Ah, those were the days.

Giving yourself a leg up on the sea ice bet by fetishizing our icy ancestral spirits, eh? Some people will go to any lengths...

[Ah, you've got me. And proof that it does occaisionally snow in Coton, too -W]

:-)

I'm curious - who made the "snowman", and where? And was it based on the Easter Island statues?

Dave

[Sadly I don't know. I just found it on the village rec a few years ago. You'll have to take it as you find it -W]

"And proof that it does occaisionally snow in Coton"

Only if Coton has the only patch of grass, in the world. Otherwise, we're just taking your word that that's where it was taken. ;)

OT but Dick Lindzen is having a go at you

Climate Science: Is it currently designed to answer questions?
Authors: Richard S. Lindzen

'The myth of scientific consensus is also perpetuated in the web's Wikipedia where climate articles are vetted by William Connolley, who regularly runs for office in England as a Green Party candidate. No deviation from the politically correct line is permitted.'

Here http://arxiv.org/abs/0809.3762

[Hey, you're right. Poor old Lindzen, people have been practising on him; I doubt he has bothered to read wiki. Ah well, thats what he gets for lack of proper research -W]
