Egnorance: The egotistical combination of ignorance and arrogance. First coined by Burt Humburg Reed Cartwright to describe Michael Egnor, neurosurgeon, ID-flak, and no-nothing (at least when it comes to biology).

Who am I?

John M. Lynch is an Honors Faculty Fellow at Barrett the Honors College at Arizona State University. He's also affiliated with ASU's Center for Biology & Society. When he's not an historian of anti-evolutionism, he's an evolutionary morphologist. Much to his surprise, in 2007 he was named the Arizona Professor of the Year. No doubt his students were surprised as well.

Actually, I came up with that coinage in an email to Burt, suggesting that he consider the title that you see on his post. Someone else, who shall remain nameless, came up with the snark "egnorance".

Oh, come on Reed, credit where credit's due. I was the one who typed it in.
Reed's right and he does get credit for the title idea. Actually, the entire post was a group effort. Maybe I organized it and added a few thoughts of my own, but much props goes to PTers for making me look so good and suggesting so many great leads.

Not that it is all that important, or ingenius, since it's a pretty easy play on words, but...
http://scienceblogs.com/goodmath/2007/02/a_math_geek_on_dr_egnors_evasi_1.php
I coined it in that thread on 2-25. :)

Burt: You do deserve credit for publicizing the definition.
MarkP: It is an easy play on words, and it looks like the dictionary definition of "egnorance" is going to get larger:
