Who am I?

John M. Lynch is an Honors Faculty Fellow at Barrett the Honors College at Arizona State University. He's also affiliated with ASU's Center for Biology & Society. When he's not an historian of anti-evolutionism, he's an evolutionary morphologist. Much to his surprise, in 2007 he was named the Arizona Professor of the Year. No doubt his students were surprised as well.

BCS Bowls - Day 1

It’s not like ASU did wonderfully against Texas (losing the Holiday Bowl 52-34), but at least they turned up to play somewhat (albeit not in the first quarter). The same can’t be said for Illinois in the Rose Bowl (49-17...

World Cup 2010 Draw

The qualifying draw from World Cup 2010 in South Africa was made today. Europe’s Group 8 looks like a challenge for the Irish (current rankings in brackets): Italy (3) Bulgaria (18) Republic of Ireland (35) Cyprus (65) Georgia (77) Montenegro...

Hawaii ... not as good as they think they are.

Tonight #16 Hawaii played San Jose State and won 42-35 in overtime. That’s the same San Jose that ASU beat 45-3. Hawaii go 7-0 but frankly, given whom they have beat, are horribly overrated. Despite being unbeaten. Hawaii haven’t really...

*

Eh, no. The rest of the world of sports doesn’t care when a cheating misanthrope hits a ball and shatters the "most-hallowed record" in American sports. Bonds, of course, played for ASU and his name hangs in the baseball...

Definition of luck

Doing this and only suffering bruises of the liver and lung, stress fractures to vertebrae and a small fracture on the top of one hand....

Cricket?

I don't really get cricket. Growing up in Ireland, it was always seen as a British game and the Irish national squad was a bit of a joke. Barring a 1969 win over perennial powerhouse, the West Indies, nothing of...

Can we have a playoff system now?

OK, so Michigan lost to a team that itself lost to UCLA and Oregon State. Unsurprisingly, Dwayne Jarrett showed himself to be a classless TO-wannabe. But what about Boise State? 43-42 over Oklahoma in overtime to go unbeaten. Classic, just...

A heartfelt wish

To USC on the afternoon of the Rose Bowl. Go Blue! (source)...

What could have been

Terry Bowden points out what could have been had there been a eight-team playoff for the college football championship. Now that would have been some good football ... although I dispute his claim that Florida would beat Michigan....

Florida? Florida? You gotta be kidding me!

So I guess it is Ohio State versus Florida for the national championship. Florida leapt over Michigan in the BCS rankings and the Wolverines are fated to meet USC in the Rose Bowl (my money is on Michigan). I still...

Saturday Football (Schadenfreude edition)

I said all along that USC weren't as good as they thought they were and were not deserving of their #2 ranking. After all, when #3, they only beat unranked ASU by a single touchdown. And now, unranked UCLA beat them 13-9 in...

$62,000 a win ... is it worth it?

I'm no fan of pro football and only really watch the odd Monday night game (while relaxing after work) and the Super Bowl (if family are over). Last Monday I watched the Arizona Cardinals choke big-time against Chicago, the only...

Saturday night's not alright for fighting

Yesterday's Miami versus Florida International game "featured" a bench-clearing brawl that should result in more than just a few token one-game suspensions. The NCAA needs to get involved and I agree with Kevin that scholarships should be lost. Miami seem to...

How about them Tigers?

Detroit sweeps Oakland 4-0  with a 6-3 comeback today in the Motor City ... as an honorary Michigander by marriage, I approve of this....

Saturday Football

ASU have the day off, but Saturday wouldn't be the same without me grousing about a team choking at football, so I present to you the Republic of Ireland soccer team (different "football" I know, but at least this one...

If I was in Glendale ...

So the Arizona Cardinals moved out of Sun Devil Stadium (home of the ASU Sun Devils) and got themselves a new state-of-the-art facility in Glendale, a city in the west valley. By all accounts it is a sweet stadium. With...
