I very rarely post directly on issues of politics outside of science policy, biomedical research funding, or political interference in the scientific process.
However, the came in last night from frequent Terra Sig commenter and all-around kool lady, Anjou:
This is great...
Here is a powerful and amazing statement on Al Jazeera
television. It is the most powerfully articulate statement on the
senseless bloody conflict in the middle east I have heard. The woman
speaking (there are English subtitles) is Wafa Sultan, an Arab-American
psychologist from Los Angeles. The Muslim cleric who tries to debate
her is reduced to silence and confusion in the face of the truth of her
words. I would suggest watching it ASAP because I don't know how long

Here is a NYTimes article on this brave lady
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/03/11/international/middleeast/11sultan.htm…
That was quite a speech.
I don't agree with everything she said. I think the Christians have quite a history of damaging mosques. I think the current American government has done a great deal of killing/destroying in the name of Christianity. I think Israelis have done a great deal of killing/destroying (arguably in self-defense or hit-'em-back-first strikes).
Still, for a woman, and bare-headed no less, to go say such a thing is remarkable.
Very Impressive. (too bad she is married - outspoken articulate intelligent women are hot!)
There is a clearer link here, with a transcript and a chance to download the video clip:
Memri TV.
I've transcribed it here.
