As noted in my last post on the end of our ScienceBlogs.com DonorsChoose campaign to raise funds for public schoolteacher projects around the country, we have all been amazed at the outpuoring of generosity from readers who share our passion for educating the next generation of scientists. At the very least, you have all played a part in improving the scientific literacy of kids who go on to do other things, but can still apply critical thinking skills to everything from making sense of politician/sciencespeak to protect themselves from unscrupulous marketers of dietary supplements.
But as my SiBlings and I were discussing behind-the-scenes the remarkable generosity of one contributor who we now realize has funded a large proportion of challenges from multiple bloggers. As you might suspect, this donot prefers for her name not to be known publicly, but I'd like to establish this post and comment thread as a way for all of us to thank her for her benevolence.
As the donor noted in an e-mail to me:
Best wishes to you, and keep up the good work with your blogging! It's great to see some professionals taking the time to educate the general public on scientific and medical matters, and challenge some of the all-too-abundant nonsense to be found on the internet.
All of us ScienceBloggers are fortunate to be so heartily endorsed by our readers, both philosophically and financially. I am certain that the teachers and students who have had projects funded by this effort are equally appreciative.
