By the time the next Congress is sworn in, as many Americans will have died in Iraq as died on 9/11.
At 6:00 Sunday evening, the Prez will blow into Topeka. A report on his speech in Colorado gives a sense of what we can expect:
[A] blistering message against Democrats on taxes and terrorism. And, with a verdict in the trial of Saddam Hussein in Iraq due as early as Sunday, … extensive comments on Iraq.On September 11, 2001, al Qaeda struck out from its shelters in Taliban-run Afghanistan, destroying part of the Pentagon and the World Trade Center, killing nearly 3,000 people.
On October 7, President Bush said:
the United States military has begun strikes against al Qaeda terrorist training camps and military installations of the Taliban regime in Afghanistan… to disrupt the use of Afghanistan as a terrorist base of operations, and to attack the military capability of the Taliban regime.Five years later, reports of renewed Taliban activity come out every day. Our promises not to abandon the Afghan people have been broken. The hunt for Osama bin Laden was cut off when the Special Forces soldiers were re-deployed to hunt for Saddam Hussein – a man who had not attacked America, and who posed no particular threat at the time.
Of course, Saddam was caught, and apparently will be sentenced to death tomorrow.
So, when the President comes to Topeka tomorrow and repeats: "My decision to remove Saddam Hussein was the right decision, and the world is better off for it," ask yourself if you'd rather have Hussein brought to justice, or the man responsible for the deaths of 9/11.
The President made his choice, and seems happy with it. Unfortunately for him, more and more Americans are getting unhappy with that choice.
If you want a different direction, join others of us on the south steps of the State Capitol at 1 pm for a rally with the next congresswoman from Kansas, Nancy Boyda.

An editorial nit: I think you meant to say as many soldiers will have died as "people" did on 9/11. The way it is written, it is implied that those who died on 9/11 were soldiers.
