Thoughts from Kansas

You will notice that it lacks definiteness; that it lacks purpose; that it lacks coherence; that it lacks a subject to talk about; that it is loose and wabbly; that it wanders around; that it loses itself early and does not find itself any more. --Mark Twain

"Clothes Of Sand" by Nick Drake from the album Made To Love Magic (2004, 2:31).

"Goldberg Variations, BWV 988: Variation 17 a 2 Clavier" by Glenn Gould from the album The Goldberg Variations - Glenn Gould Plays Bach (1981, 1:21). Do you prefer the 1955 album?

"Mardi Gras In New Orleans" by Professor Longhair from the album Mardi Gras in Baton Rouge (1991, 2:56).

"Thunder Chicken" by The Mighty Imperials from the album Thunder Chicken (2006, 3:11). Funky as can be.

"Rugare Rwamangwana" by Oliver Mtukudzi from the album Golden Afrique Vol.3 (Disc 2) (2006, 5:35).

"Thursday" by Asobi Seksu from the album Citrus (2006, 4:17).

"Shut Up 'N Play Yer Guitar Some More" by Frank Zappa from the album Shut Up and Play Your Guitar Some More (1982, 6:53).

"The Girls Want To Be With The Girls" by Talking Heads from the album The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads (1978, 3:44). "Girls … Just want to do what's in their hearts, … Boys say 'what do you mean?'"

"Gimme Shelter" by The Rolling Stones from the album Let It Bleed (1969, 4:36). "It's just a shot away."

"The Electric Version" by The New Pornographers from the album Electric Version (2003, 2:53).

Average rating: 4.4 stars.

The iTunes I Ching shows an eclectic mix of happy songs, a good reflection of TfK's current state of excited confusion. The variation in styles, ethnicities and nationalities reflects uncertainty about direction and location, while the selection from the second of Gould's Goldberg Variations clearly indicates the risks and opportunities of thinking twice about past decisions. The high average rating suggests good things to come.

The powers of the human mind to generate pattern from stochasticity are amazing.
