Pinnacles

Seeing the sun set across Pinnacles National Monument, while the full moon rises out past the San Andreas fault (below the fold) is pretty awesome. It would’ve been nice to see some condors, too. Though the horned lizard was pretty excellent.

More Pesach goodness

Kara explains: In the story of Exodus, we learn much about the story of Passover, which involves shank bones, lice, blood smearings, and unpleasant stale crackers, much like the nurse’s office in elementary school. Ma nishtana?

On Saturday night, we celebrated the first night of Passover. It’s a day on which Jews have, since time immemorial, celebrated out freedom, and greater freedom to come. The seder is a profound and moving ceremony, and its form connects us through the generations, back to the ancestors who laid the groundwork for modern Jewish…

Jenna Jameson outstrips Ben Stein

Here’s the New York Times on porn actress/producer Jenna Jameson’s new movie, Zombie Strippers: Strewn with some surprisingly decent effects, this unevenly paced film delivers, if nothing else, on the promise of its title: lots of surgically enhanced nude dead women strutting their stuff. ? Expelled steals from the dead

Expelled apparently features “Imagine” by John Lennon , and the Lennon estate is not pleased. Busy, busy, busy

Tomorrow, NCSE is putting out a comprehensive response to the crockumentary called “Expelled: No Intelligence…” We’re putting the finishing touches on now, despite the browbeating of Rob Crowther and Denyse O’Leary. There will be more to say anon. I may even address “bittergate,” a leading contender for “stupidest controversy ever” award. But hey, the election’s…

The more that the producers of Expelled talk, the more they demonstrate their abject idiocy. Chris Heard transcribes part of producer Mark Mathis’s discussion with Scientific American: [SciAm editor] Mirsky: Why not also include comments from somebody like Ken Miller? Mathis: Uh? Mirsky: who is famously religious? Mathis: well? [Laughs.] Mirsky: and an evolutionary biologist.…

Want

My birthday is mere months away, and Stephanie Metz’s beautiful art would be a lovely gift for me or anyone else whose opinion you respect. I happen to think the teddy bear skulls are a bit twee, but this is badass: Yes, children, I said a dirty word, but no other word can accurately describe…
