Sorry that blogging has been extra-crappy lately. Honestly, no Independence Day post? WTF?
Well, it's like this.
A while back I met Debra Berliner. She was smart and cute and made the same sorts of jokes I liked to make and laughed when I made them and enjoyed the same sorts of projects I do. Our interests meshed and we had lots to talk about. So we spent time together.
We went to farmers markets. We went biking. We memorized Muppet movies and Decemberists songs. We knocked on doors in Reno and Las Vegas to get Obama elected. We looked at 3D images from Mars at NASA's Ames facility. We went to the weddings of our gay and lesbian friends when they were legal. We knocked on doors in California to restore that right to our friends and family who now cannot marry.
We went to a garden here in Oakland, and I asked her if she'd marry me, and she said yes.
And now we're spending a lot of time visiting parks where we can hold the ceremony, and interviewing caterers and thinking about the best day, and deciding what the rings should look like, and keeping track of all that will follow when all this planning is done, and the ceremony happens, and our life together commences.
Debbie and I will keep you updated as the process moves along. We expect the wedding to be next summer, somewhere in the Bay area. You'll know more when we do. Thanks to you, dear readers, for welcoming this new member of our family, and for your indulgence as the planning and other adjustments to married life impoverish the blogging.

And I say it again .. best wishes Josh & Debbie. Married life is indeed an adjustment but is worth it all (he said nearly 15 years later!).

But on to more important stuff: in the second picture you're wearing a zip-up shirt that has 'Oakland' printed underneath a picture of something that looks similar to an AT-AT with boxes leading to a picture of something that looks even more like an AT-AT. What is on that shirt?

However, I wouldn't be bragging about going to a gay fake wedding though. That's a bad way to start out. There is no such thing as a ay marriage. maybe in the eyes of secular liberals, but not in the eyes of God who created marriage between one man and one woman. BTW is has been illegal for gays to unionize (don;t call it marriage, that's blasphemy) since day one of creation 6,000 years ago. 250,000,000,000,000,000 eternities from now it will still be wrong and illegal. You cannot chnage the wrongness of something.

I used to get worked up when I read self-righteous, mean-spirited, narrow-minded, fact-deficited, brainwashed comments like those of "Conservative Crazy Man". But, after a while (years really), I came to the conclusion that its good to let them flap their angel wings and rant from their imagined lofty perches above the rest of us. Interesting how religious bigots are selective in what they cite from the Old and New Testaments. Amazing how they have no problem with any of the stories of incest, polygamy, stoning, mass murder of innocents, and religious persecution, to name just a few of the less agregious sins. People like Conservative Crazy Man just don't get it: You can be a devout and righteous person and still question religious teaching.
Fundamentalists, no matter what their religion or their ethnic background, are one of the Human Race's greatest threats. Like the not-lamented Berlin Wall, they stand with their clay feet firmly fixed in concrete, forever seeking to separate rather than to encourage interaction and communication. Sad.
