Joshua Rosenau spends his days defending the teaching of evolution at the National Center for Science Education. He is also a graduate student at the University of Kansas, completing a doctorate in the department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. When not modeling species distributions or battling creationists, he writes about developments in progressive politics and the sciences.
The opinions expressed here are his own, do not reflect the official position of the NCSE. Indeed, older posts may no longer reflect his own official position.

About
Josh Rosenau works for the National Center for Science Education in Oakland, CA. He is a Public Information Project Director, working to make sure science education is accurate, especially regarding the teaching of evolution.
Until the summer of 2007, he was a graduate student in ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of Kansas, and he is currently completing his dissertation. His research focuses on the role of competition in the geographic ranges of species, especially mammals.
In Kansas, he learned, among other things, that biology is political science. So long as that's true, his coverage of politics will be right next to the coverage of the latest scientific discoveries.
Rosenau spends his days doing science, and blogging is a release and a way to be more than just a scientist. You'll find results from ecology and his immediate scientific field, but probably more politics, art, philosophy, science policy and interesting results from other areas of science than you might expect.
For the record, Rosenau is not originally from Kansas. He lived there for seven fascinating years, and that time had a huge impact on his thoughts. However, he was born in Chicago, with a childhood spent mostly in the New York City area. Being a liberal Jewish Kansan gives a different perspective than being a liberal Jewish New Yorker, let alone a liberal from the Bay area.

The material here is written on Josh Rosenau's own time for his own reasons. Anything discussion of topics NCSE is working on should not be taken as an official comment, those can be found at the NCSE's website. In particular, the NCSE does not speak out on elections, but in my free time, I do.
