The newer model is out. The beginning of the end of paper books? Maybe. Paper books will be around, but devices like Kindle are certain to change the rules of the game. Gone are the days when we can argue that paper books are superior to electronic reading devices because they are portable, don't need a lot of maintenance, they are perfectly suited for primates to handle with their primatey hands, eyes and brains, etc.

I think the Kindle is best on a long trip or plane where it's hard to take along many books. Otherwise I think you will agree that nothing can replace the crisp, personal closeness that books engender.

Ashutosh, I understand your sentiment.
Books (dead-tree kind) have an irrefutable physical presence that digital devices don't. I like the sweet smell of condensed wisdom and vice of ages although the books sometimes stare accusingly at me from the shelves for not having read them. That said, what is a dead-tree book but a convenient and cost-effective solution to distribute ideas. Amazon-Kindle and their kind could be the next Gutenberg.
