If you have not yet figured out why you shoud not be using terms like "hard science" and "soft skills", then you absolutely need to read Telling Stories About Engineering: Group Dynamics and Resistance to Diversity in NWSA Journal v. 16 No. 1, 2004 (Re)Gendering Science Fields.

You should also read They Blinded Me With Science: Misuse and Misunderstanding of Biological Theory, an excellent critique of Thornhill and Palmer's nonsense about rape as an evolutionary strategy. Where Are My Minions When I Need Them, Dammit!

Category: Friday FareMoron Management

So, according to WT, I have minions.

This would be awesome, if it were true.

Alas, I fear it is not. Mr. Zuska and I still must fetch our own food and load the dishwasher, and last night we were forced to gather the trash and wheel the container to the curb ourselves. I am pretty sure if I had minions, I wouldn't be doing any of that. Especially the trash part, because that includes dealing with the kitty litter. Mr. Zuska being faint of heart when it comes to kitty poop, that duty generally falls to me.

I am for damn sure if I had minions, I would not be carrying kitty poop around. If anybody in the Zuska household has minions, it's the kitties.

Perhaps WT meant minion in the sense of a 17th century cannon with a small bore? I don't have one of those, either, but it would make an awesome garden ornament. For the time being, I'll have to content myself with visiting the nifty cannons out at Valley Forge National Park (if you follow the link, scroll down a little for a fab cannon photo).

Meanwhile, if any of you would like to apply for the post of Zuska Household Minion, we are accepting applications. Remember, ZHM is an honorific post; while the duties are real, there is no actual pay. But don't let that deter you! Apply now!

I don't suppose you have any positions where the duties are illusory but the pay is real? I find that these sort of positions are the ones that really play to my strengths (eating, sleeping, and authoring vaporware).

What's that saying? Dogs have owners but cats have staff? And I'd be honored to be a Zuska minion, but I suck at fetching and carrying. Not sure you'd want me for anything but carrying the flag.

I've heard a number of good 17th century cannons. The choir did a good job, for the most part.
