If you have not yet figured out why you shoud not be using terms like "hard science" and "soft skills", then you absolutely need to read Telling Stories About Engineering: Group Dynamics and Resistance to Diversity in NWSA Journal v. 16 No. 1, 2004 (Re)Gendering Science Fields.

You should also read They Blinded Me With Science: Misuse and Misunderstanding of Biological Theory, an excellent critique of Thornhill and Palmer's nonsense about rape as an evolutionary strategy. You can find it in Burack and Josephson's must-read tome, Fundamental Differences: Feminists Talk Back to Social Conservatives.

Hey Readers!

Seed is running a reader survey. You could win an iPod AND a MacBook Air AND an Apple TV!!! just for participating! Apparently the chances of winning are pretty darn good. So maybe you want to sashay on over to this page and complete the survey. It only takes 10 minutes, I've been told, though the survey site says 20. Good luck!

Yeah, 10 minutes. But I hate "strongly agree-somewhat agree..." scales. My brain doesn't work like that, I guess.

And if you get most of your books for $1 at the library sales and thriftshops, it's hard to answer the part about what percentage of your books you buy in bookstores or online--they insist those two choices will add up to 100%. They need to come shopping with me sometime.
