Building on the success of the inaugural Festival in 2010, the 2nd USA Science & Engineering Festival will inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers with school programs and nationwide contests throughout the 2011/2012 school year and a finale Expo in Washington DC in the Spring of 2012. The Expo is the nation’s largest celebration of all things science & engineering and features over 1500 hands-on activities and over 75 performances on multiple stages. The 2010 Festival attracted over 500,000 people of all ages and had strong support from the White House and Congress.

The American Statistical Association (ASA), the nation's preeminent professional statistical society, will participate in a two-day expo on the National Mall October 23--24 as part of the inaugural USA Science & Engineering Festival. The ASA's booth will feature the grand-prize winner of the competition it held earlier this year to select hands-on activities for the event. ASA is an official partner of the festival.

If you felt a slight pull in the direction of our nation's capitol recently, it might have to do with a giant event that will culminate in veritable science-apoolza this weekend. This thing is something called the USA Science & Engineering Festival, and we're excited to be part of it here at Chandra.

The Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) will enable astronomers to explore the universe in unprecedented clarity when it achieves "first light" later this decade. The public, however, will get an exciting preview of what TMT will observe as part of the two-day expo for the USA Science and Engineering Festival, October 23 and 24 in Washington, D.C.
