Vonnegut: Science Art

Category: The Art/Science (Non?)Divide Building

Mr. Vonnegut has quite the extensive collection of silkcreens you can purchase at his website, and even includes a genetically flavoured piece, called "One-Liner #3 Genome"

As well, here's an interesting one called "Intelligent Design," which I don't get - although maybe that is the whole point?

It's a Wedge (a pizza wedge?), stabbing a heart, with boobs attached to it.

Yes, yes, of course. Because Intelligent design is a metaphorical wedge (or metaphorical pizza slice) as it relates to, of course, of course, mammary glands, which in turn represent the holy milk of... wait nevermind. Maybe we need an artist weighing in, after all.

It does look like a pizza, a heart, and boobs, but I think it might be a representation of a dress or a woman, with the heart representing the butt. Regardless of Vonnegut's intent or the many interpretations, the title is almost certainly tongue-in-cheek, meaning the dress, pizza slice, or even the boobs are examples of true intelligent design, unrelated to the pseudo-science crusade.

Of course it's a woman.

You can't figure it out, you can't stop looking, you want it.

For an artist trying to sell his wares, it's a damn intelligent design.
