Vancouver Cafe Scientifique. Come on out for a chat.

Category: Knoxville '82: Where Miscellany Thrive
Posted on: June 18, 2007 12:11 PM, by David Ng

Just a quick note to let folks know I'll be giving a short talk tomorrow in Vancouver on the challenge of science literacy, and also hoping to generate some interesting and unconventional ideas for tackling this challenge.

Details are as follows:

"A dialogue on the here and now: Scientific and environmental literacy (or lack thereof)"

Some say that "science is culture." But maybe it's better to say that "science needs culture" or perhaps even more fitting would be to further tweak it into "culture needs more science." Whatever the opinion, this talk will look at the challenge of engaging the scientifically illiterate, especially as it relates to current cultural aesthetics.

Tuesday, June 19, 2007. 7:30pm @ The Railway Club, 579 Dunsmuir (at Seymour, above the 7-11) FREE !!

Anyway, hope to see some folks out there. I think the Vancouver edition of Cafe Scientifique, generally has a small audience, but that's usually good for some good discussion (and drinking of course).

At the Railway Club!? Isn't that more a venue for loud local bands? How did that become the venue for Cafe Scientifique? Is it because it's across the street from BCIT? I thought you were a UBC guy...

Yup, I'm a UBC guy. Not sure why it's at the Railway Club, but it is. I was told not to bring my guitar.

I think it's the same night as the meeting of the ukulele club. Different venue, though... I hope.

There's a ukulele club in vancouver? You have details? That sounds cool.
